Highlights
- Recently serviced and recommissioned after long term storage
- British Racing Green paint in great condition
- Excellent vinyl and walnut interior
The Appeal
The ‘big’ Healey has always had a dedicated following, and it’s easy to see why: its superb sporting styling announces its intention to impress before you’ve even heard the eager exhaust note from that smooth-running straight-six.
Offered for sale here is a 3000 Mk III which was originally sold in the US, but returned to the UK in 1990 and was converted to right-hand drive at this time.
The car has more recently been recommissioned following a period of storage. This, we’re told, included a full service and an overhaul of the brakes in June 2022. This should make it a joy for its next owner to drive.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered in 1966
- Previously exported to the USA
- Reimported to the UK in 1990 and converted to right-hand drive
- Heritage certificate on file
- Extensive history file and photographic record
- Road Tax and MOT exempt
The Interior
- Black vinyl interior
- Converted to Right-hand drive in 1990
- Beautiful burr walnut veneer dashboard
Not only does this Austin-Healey have the looks and performance of a high-end automobile, but it also has a sumptuous interior to match. The piped vinyl seats and burr walnut veneer dashboard reveal that this is a luxury motorcar, as well as a sporting one.
Opening the door reveals a sea of nicely stitched black vinyl upholstery, which is finished with contrasting piping. These covers appear to be in excellent condition, with hardly a blemish to be seen on them. Small seats are provided to the rear, for occasional use or as some extra luggage space.
The driver is provided with a large, wooden-rimmed steering wheel, which is reassuringly solid. This sits in front of the beautifully polished burr walnut dashboard, which exhibits a deep shine and finely figured grain. Large Smiths gauges are let into the timber and accompanied by Lucas switchgear and even an adjustable map light. A period radio sits in the centre console.
In the boot, there is a full size spare wire wheel, secured with a leather strap, and the boot floor and sides feature fitted carpets, and we also find the battery here. And it looks as though, with the spare wheel removed, there would be a decent amount of luggage carrying capacity.
The Exterior
- British Racing Green paintwork in excellent condition
- Chrome trim very well presented
- Very clean underneath
Finished in the ever-popular shade of British Racing Green, this Healey really looks the part. The elegantly styled body appears to be in very good order and the colour choice suits it perfectly.
The paint is very well preserved and looks to be free from any significant damage. There are the usual small scratches and blemishes, which don’t detract from the overall smart appearance of the car. The chrome trim and bumpers are similarly well presented, with very little pitting evident.
The hood appears to function correctly and we couldn’t see and tears or damage, although it is a little creased. And underneath thee structure of the car appears to be very clean and tidy. The chassis real look smart and there was only a little surface corrosion on a few components, as we would expect to see.
The Mechanics
- 2,912cc straight-six C-Series engine
- Four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive
- Serviced in June 2022, including a brake overhaul
Hidden away under the long, low bonnet sits a six-cylinder C-Series engine, fed by twin S.U. carburettors. The engine bay looks to be clean and tidy, and there is plenty of space to wield a spanner.
We’re told by the vendor that the car has been fully serviced in June 2022, with an extensive overhaul of the braking system, including the servo and master cylinder. We’re told that it drives very well, having been in long term storage and then recently recommissioned for road use.
These late Healeys offer excellent performance and they handle extremely well too. This particular car also benefits from the foment of rack-and-pinion steering.
Summary
In all, this Austin-Healey is presented in superb condition throughout, and will make a fantastic addition to any collection. It stands ready to be driven and enjoyed.
