Highlights
- Wide body conversion
- Engine rebuilt by Porsche specialist
- Upgraded 1.8 engine
The Appeal
With only around 30,000 of the 912 built by Karmann between 1965 and 1967 on the original short wheelbase chassis ,the 912 is a relative rarity when compared to its sister car, the better-known 911.
Imported from America in 2007 this particular example has a rebuilt, original engine which has been enlarged from 1,600cc to 1,800cc.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered in America in 1966
- Converted to widebody and 1,800cc engine fitted
- Imported and first registered in the UK in 2016
- Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
- MOT exempt
- V5c present showing 1 UK owner
- 2 sets of keys
- Original owner’s manual
- Spare wheel
Purchased and imported to the UK in 2016 the current enthusiast owner has spent over £20,000 in recent years to bring this 912 up to its current condition, including re-fitting the car’s original engine but with a useful extra 200cc.
The Interior
- Customised black leather interior
- New headlining, door cards and carpets
- Webasto heater
- Stereo upgraded
- Lecarra steering wheel
- Good condition throughout
Fully retrimmed with a new dashboard, headlining and carpets the interior presents very well with the original Recaro seats being re-trimmed in black quilted leather along with matching door cards.
There are a few signs of wear on the gear lever and the sun visors could do with some attention but otherwise everything is all in a very presentable condition.
To combat the early car’s heating system you’ll find some extra heater controls on the dashboard, which control the far more efficient Webasto heating unit which is fitted in the front luggage compartment.
A period sports steering wheel by Lecarra has also been added along with an upgraded stereo unit.
The Exterior
- Bare metal respray in black
- Wide body
- Good condition throughout
The wide bodied 912 has been treated to a full bare metal respray in Black, along with new floor panels and it certainly looks to be a very good solid car all-round.
It sits on wider non-standard alloy wheels to fill those widened arches, all with good tyres and it has a great aggressive stance along with lots of road presence.

There are a few paint imperfections to be found, especially on the bumpers but there are no dings or dents and the chrome work and lights all present well too.
The Mechanics
- 1,800cc engine
- Fully rebuilt engine
- K&N air filters
- Full-flow oil system
- Very few miles since total rebuild
The original 1,600cc engine was supplied along with the car so this was fully re-built and balanced with many new parts but increased in capacity to 1,800cc for that extra bit of power.
The gearbox has been fully serviced along with all the drivetrain and drive shafts, and the brake callipers, pads and discs have also been replaced and the engine has had a Full-Flow oil system fitted to ensure lubrication through even the most aggressive cornering.

The electrics have been thoroughly inspected and the car is reported to run extremely well with plenty of acceleration in all the gears., with everything working as it should.
Summary
A nicely restored and rebuilt wide-bodied 912 Porsche with a few useful upgrades which only enhance the sheer driving pleasure available from this rare 911 alternative.
