The Appeal
Now that sunny weather is finally upon us (well, at the time of writing, at least, fingers crossed it doesn’t disappear too quickly), we’ve been considering fun cars to make the most of it. While a sporty convertible might be an obvious choice, we’d urge you to consider the roofless marvel that is the Mini Moke. With Mini running gear, it’s a hoot to drive and easy to maintain.
This example has seen just two owners since the early seventies and has obviously been very well cared for. Recent renovation work includes powder coated subframes and a thorough service and it looks to be as clean underneath as it is on top. For your chance to own a sunshine smile machine, get your bid in now.
The History and Paperwork
- Registered 13 August 1965
- Two owners since the early seventies
- Some sympathetic restoration carried out in recent years, including powder coating of its subframes, new wiring loom, brake lines, new exhaust, driveshaft couplings
- Current owner reports that he has kept it in a garage and only taken it out in dry conditions
- Rear seats added by the seller but can easily be removed
- Recently serviced by the owner using genuine BMC parts including new brake shoes, points, plugs, oil filter, etc.
- Heritage certificate confirming that it's a rare home market example
- Original cardboard log book
- Collection of Moke memorabilia
- MOT exempt
- V5 present
The Interior
- Retrimmed seats
- Additional rear seats (removable)
- Lap belts to front
Of course, given the nature of the Moke, one could argue that all of it is on the exterior but, putting that aside, the cabin is in fine condition.
The front seats have been retrimmed and match the rears which are a later addition by the current owner, though can easily be removed should the next owner want to return it to the specification listed on the heritage certificate.
There’s a pair of mats to protect the painted metal floor in the front and little in the way of switchgear, though what is present all works as it should with the occasional exception of the fuel gauge.
Other than that, there’s little to report on but there are lap belts for the front seats and a jack and wheel brace.
The Exterior
- Spruce Green
- Removable canvas roof
- Lovely condition
Looking very spruce in Spruce Green, this Moke has obviously been very well cared for over the years. The paintwork is in very good condition and, although the owner advises that it may benefit from a deep polish, we think it looks great.
As is to be expected, there are a few scuff marks from climbing in and out but otherwise it’s free from marks or scratches. The wheels are in good order and wear a new set of tyres.
Underneath is also looking pristine with a new exhaust, freshly powder coated subframes and no signs of wet weather use. Just in case the next owner wants to brave the elements, there is a canvas roof which is in good condition.
Overall, it’s a lovely thing which is sure to raise smiles wherever it goes.
The Mechanics
- 850cc engine
- Four speed manual gearbox
- Sprightly performance
The engine bay is very clean and tidy and the seller reports that, much like its close relative the Mini, the Moke is a great deal of fun to drive. There is a little smoke on start up with the choke but this soon clears and acceleration is said to be keen while the brakes are effective and gear changes can be executed without problem.
The seller doesn't know whether the engine has been adjusted for unleaded fuel and so uses a fuel additive to be on the safe side. There are no reported untoward noises, and the new exhaust gives an entertainingly fruity note. In all, there’s plenty of enjoyment to be had and this car is very much up for it.

Summary
A lovely example of the entertaining Mini derivative that will surely keep its next owner and any onlookers very happy.
