The Appeal
The Bentley S3 sat firmly in the upper echelons of the automotive hierarchy when it was introduced in 1962, being a graceful high-quality saloon powered by a smooth running V8 engine. But the S3 offered for sale here is even more exclusive than the standard model: it is the two door coupé, coachbuilt by Mulliner Park Ward.
The rakish lines of this coupé set it apart as a car intended for those of discerning taste, who want something tastefully out of the ordinary. With its distinctive front end, sweeping lines and small tail fins, it cuts a smart figure.
Offered for sale from a large collection of Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars, this particular Bentley appears to be wonderfully original and looks smart in its light grey paintwork with contrasting red leather interior.

The Interior

Continuing the graceful styling, the interior is sumptuously appointed with ‘St James’ red leather seating and a full complement of gauges on the dashboard.
The leather remains in good condition, showing signs of light use which add to its character and history. Continued on the door cards, with their deep storage pockets, the leather is in remarkably fine condition all round. Matching red carpets complement the upholstery very well.
The veneered dashboard and door cappings exhibit a deep shine which accentuates the beautiful grain beneath. All the gauges, lights and switch gear are present and correct, and the car even features a radio, a sure sign of luxury in the ‘60s.
Above, the headlining is exceptionally clean and the cut-glass courtesy lamp is the perfect finishing touch. The boot is very spacious, clean and tidy.
In all, the understated styling of this Bentley’s interior has aged extremely well.
The Exterior

Featuring a coachbuilt body, crafted by Mulliner Park Ward, which sets it apart from the standard S3 saloon, the two door coupé is a very stylish vehicle.
The grey paintwork appears to be in excellent condition, with few blemishes of note, which suggests that this car has been well cared for by its previous owners. The gleaming chromework remains in fine fettle, with the winged B sitting proudly atop the unmistakable pointed radiator grille.
Underneath, this Bentley seems to have led a sheltered life, with no significant issues reported and no more than the usual surface corrosion evident on any vehicle of nearly sixty tears old.
We are particularly taken by the tasteful tail fins, which support triple rear lamps and do so with just enough stylish flair to be noticed.
The Mechanics

At the heart of this Bentley lies its 6.2 litre aluminium alloy V8 engine, which had been introduced in the S2. The S3’s engine features a higher compression ratio, which improved its acceleration and top speed.
The ‘Continental’ name has long been associated with Bentleys capable of performing grand tours without issue, and this S3 should be no different. Its long-legged drivetrain makes it quite at home in modern traffic on today’s roads.
Although we aren’t able to verify this car’s past maintenance schedule, the appearance of the rest of the vehicle implies to us that it has been well kept in recent years.
Summary
The combination of this Bentley’s avant-garde coachwork, coupled with a powerful V8 engine and cavernous interior makes this a very attractive automobile indeed. There are very few boxes which this S3 Continental leaves un-ticked.
Having been part of a large collection of similarly luxurious cars, this Bentley appears to have been well cared for and is now presented in superb condition.
