The Appeal
Few vehicles in the history of transportation have had such an impact as the Land Rover.
Here we have an excellent opportunity to acquire a smart example of an iconic car.
Here we have an excellent opportunity to acquire a smart example of an iconic car.
Fitted with a TDI engine manufactured some time after Series production ended in 1984, this Land Rover benefits from a power increase making it an example that can be used in modern traffic.
The DVLA understands this to be a 1962 example, although Land Rover enthusiasts will doubtless have spotted that this car bears all the signs of being a Series 3. The first date of registration is recorded as 1971, which would of course corroborate this.
Regardless of this Land Rover’s enigmatic origins, it is evidently a fine specimen that has been well-cared for over the years.

The History and Paperwork
- Date of first registration recorded as 18th February, 1971 - as “J” Suffix number plate supports
- Recorded as manufactured in 1962
- 7 recorded owners from new
- Regularly serviced and maintained by previous owner
- Current MOT until October 2022 (although exempt)
- Previous MOT certificates supplied with car
- V5C present
The Interior
- Very serviceable
- Sympathetically upgraded
On the inside, this Land Rover presents very well, retaining its factory / factory style Hardura matting over the transmission tunnel.
Filling the front footwells, there are now rubber mats that emulate chequer plate which give this Land Rover’s interior a rugged appearance befitting of the vehicle’s utilitarian origins.

The Series 3 dashboard appears to be in very good order, with no cracking along the top that occurs so often with Land Rovers of this vintage. Evidently, someone has fitted cup holders and some extra switches in the past and a blanking panel for the radio aperture has been constructed from chequer plate.
There have also been some vinyl patches applied to the lower portion of the dash on the passenger’s side. However, we would say that overall, the dashboard is in very good order.

The Deluxe vinyl seats are seemingly in good order and we were unable to detect any signs of significant wear or damage. The central seat has been replaced by a cubby box which provides this Land Rover with some extra storage space. This example also has vinyl lower door cards which appear in good condition.
There are also rear bench seats fitted and the back of this Land Rover is lined in chequer plate.
The Exterior
- Repainted black
- Chassis in good order
Having been repainted black at some point in time, the paintwork appear to be in very good order and the bodywork underneath is remarkably straight when one considers the hard life most Land Rovers endure.
Evidently, this example has been well looked after and while there are some imperfections here and there, the bodywork looks extremely sound for its age.

Some chequer plate has been applied to the exterior around the lower edges, but this appears to have been done quite well. The silver wheels look smart against the black paintwork and the tyres are in good condition with a fair amount of tread remaining.
In keeping with the tradition of two-tone paint on Land Rovers, the contrasting white roof is also a nice touch which finishes the car off well.

The chassis looks to be in fine shape and the vendor reports that this car is structurally in very good order.
The Mechanics
- TDI engine
- Overdrive
The vendor informs us that this Land Rover was judiciously serviced and maintained by the previous owner and we understand there is some paperwork that corroborates this.
The engine is a later TDI unit which the vendor tells us performs well.
It starts, runs and drives as it should and the brakes and gearbox are reportedly in good working order.

Summary
Presented in smart overall condition and with an updated power plant, this Land Rover is ready to take on new adventures with the next owner.
From its condition, it is clear that this example has been cared for and so it is a fantastic candidate to improve on further or use exactly as it is.
