HIGHLIGHTS
- Lovely example of the baby Ford saloon
- Very tidy older restoration
- Superb interior
- Fresh MOT
THE APPEAL
Nobody was quite prepared for the dramatic styling of the Ford Anglia 105E when it made its debut in 1959. Instead of the Plain Jane appearance of Fords of old, the new baby saloon ushered in an avant-garde look that borrowed heavily from the styling of US models, while its reverse-raked rear windscreen was a unique feature that became the car’s signature.
This one is a really lovely example – a charming, older restoration from the first full year of production, registered in March 1960, making it a sought-after choice among collectors.

THE INTERIOR
- Two-tone blue leatherette
- Renewed carpets
- Basic but stylish switchgear
One of the highlights of this car is its cabin, which has been fully retrimmed at some point in the car’s past and has smart new carpets and two-tone blue leatherette seat facings and door trims.
It’s a basic but extremely charming interior, with a speedometer and fuel gauge housed in one trapezoidal pod and a glovebox to match it on the other side. There’s very little else, but there’s a clear transatlantic influence to the switchgear and controls.
THE EXTERIOR
- Ambassador Blue
- Restored several years ago
- Very well presented
- Solid underneath
The Anglia is an older restoration and has recently been recommissioned by the vendor having been kept off-road since 2009. It’s still in lovely order with no major deterioration or damage. The paint retains a deep shine, the panels are all straight and true and the chrome and trim is in good order.
The underside is also very good, with signs of some older welded repairs but these have been carried out very well and the car has also been undersealed.
It’s also finished in one of the most popular Ford colours of the 1960s – Ambassador Blue – which really suits its pin-sharp lines.
THE MECHANICS
- 997cc OHV 4cyl
- Four-speed manual transmission
- Recent full service
- Drives well
Ford’s peppy 997cc engine is surprisingly lively in the 105E, which, when combined with its rear-wheel-drive layout, made it quite popular among racers and tuners.
This example is in great mechanical order and starts and runs well, having just been given a major service by the vendor’s son – a classic vehicle restorer. The car has also just gone through an MOT test which it passed with no advisories, as although it is tax and MOT exempt the vendor wanted to give the new owner peace of mind.
We were able to road test the car and can report that it drove faultlessly on test.
SUMMARY
The Anglia is one of the all-time British greats, and this one is a truly charming example that has a lot of collector appeal, not least because it’s from the first full year of production.
It’s in very good overall condition, is a great colour and has a truly wonderful interior.
