The Appeal
The iconic “T” series MGs were launched in late 1953, featuring the TD MK2 engine. It was distinctive due to its sloping radiator and headlamps faired in to the wings.
As with prior MG models post WW2 the models were sought after in the United States and of the 9600 but only a small number stayed on UK shores.
The History & paperwork
In 2020 the car underwent a comprehensive restoration, this included mechanics, exterior, interior and hood making this as near as perfect an example that you will find today.
The paperwork charts the history of the car from the early days to its present renovation. The current owner has enjoyed the car over the last two years but is now looking to purchase a more modern classic.
The Interior
- Full Ivory leather upholstery
- Fully retrimmed
The interior due to its recent restoration is in superb condition, the seats and door cards have been part of a full retrim and carpets are also like new.
All stitching is clean and there are no marks or scuffs on the seats and sills. All switchgears are fully operational and the dashboard facia is clean and free of any wear.
To finish off the cabin the three spoke vinyl and steel steering wheel blends in with the cream interior and is like new, no wear is at all visible. The only mark we can see is on the inside of the near side drivers door where a small chip is present, noted in the photo gallery.
The Exterior
- Fully restored paintwork
- Exceptional condition
The bright red solid paintwork is in fine order and compliments the lighter cabin, kick plates are clean as are the chrome bumpers front and rear. Glass work is devoid of any scratches and the hood is in as you would expect superb condition, along with the rear window. All four side panels are present and store neatly behind the driver and passenger seats.
All Victoria matching tyres have had very little use and the split rim wheels are all in fine order. The only notable area is the near side rear wheel centre cap which has light pitting. A tool kit is included with the vehicle and an unused spare wheel.
The Mechanics
- 1250cc engine
- 5 speed manual gearbox
With an extensive file of paperwork charting the cars early years and recent restoration you will see that the car has not wanted for anything, mechanically the engine had a complete overhaul and all aspects appear to be in the same condition as the cars interior and exterior.
Summary
One of the most iconic British sports cars of its era, the MG TF not only looked good but the ride and handling of the car was head of its class and the punchy 1250cc engine provided a characterful soundtrack.
Recently restored, this classic is now raring to be used for those Country road drives and classic car shows, you’ll be hard pushed to find a finer example.
