  • Beautiful looking car

The Appeal

The Consul name is synonymous with Ford and their family saloon cars, this early EOTA version is presented in lovely condition, it does require a little bit of work to get it into perfect running order but once this is complete you will have one amazing classic car.

The History and Paperwork

  • Rolling off the production line in 1954 this Consul would go on to live a well loved life
  • There is a sticker on the dash that would show that it was supplied by A.G Potter LTD. of Framlingham at some point in its life
  • Interestingly the V5 only documents 2 owners in the past 70 years
  • The first owner would acquire the car in 1954, so new, and wouldn’t let it go until 1999
  • In 1999 it would fall into its current ownership
  • Looking at the current condition it has been well looked after
  • This car has spent the previous chapter of its life tucked away in the barn of an avid car collector
  • It has since sat in this dry barn quietly without a worry in the world
  • Sadly, the previous owner passed away and their collection is being sold off by his widow
  • This car was pulled out of storage earlier this year and the current custodian has got it into a running and driving condition
  • There is a current V5 present but there is little to no other paperwork, so it is now your chance to add to the car’s history
  • With some work required to get it into Concours condition, you have the chance to make this car uniquely yours.

The Interior

  • Presented well
  • Lovely original features
  • Scope to make it your own
Classic car interiors are always wonderful to experience, the sights, and smells of 1950s motoring evoke memories and feelings of times gone by. Luckily for you, the main parts of this car's glorious interior are in good condition.
The main part of any interior is of course the seats, as this is where you are going to spend all of your time sitting. The seats in this Consul are split into two benches front and rear. Starting with the front bench we can see that the light blue material is in good condition with no horrible rips or tears. There are a few marks, but these may come out with some good vinyl/leather cleaner. Much like the front bench the rear passenger seat is presented well too, it could again do with some elbow grease to clean it up, but you shouldn’t need to replace the material.
There are still some wonderful original features within this interior. Some of these include the Consul inscription on the body colour dash and the multitude of leavers and toggles that would all be hidden within digital menus on a modern car.
As you might expect with a car that is about to celebrate its 70th birthday there are a few older features that may need a bit of a renewal. The headlining for instance may want replacing, and the carpets may want replacing. Little details when you think about the age of this car.
Within the boot of the car, you will find some spare parts that include a spare speedometer, a spare wheel, and even a spare carburettor.
Overall, the interior of this Consul is nice and original, it is just waiting for you to put your mark on it. Even if you wish to leave it as it is, it will still be a wonderful place to sit and watch the miles roll on by.

The Exterior

  • Pretty design
  • Rare visor and side light
  • All the trim is still in place
Unlike modern cars that all look similar, classic cars are instantly recognisable with loveable faces and lots of shiny chrome elements. Luckily for you, the exterior of this Consul is both beautiful and well presented.
Starting with the main elements such as the paint and trim we can see that they are both presented well. There are a few areas of paint that could do with a bit of a touch up such as just under the windscreen and the front visor. Once these areas are touched up the paint will look wonderful.

The chrome trim is also amazing to see still in place and glinting well in the summer sunshine, it would also seem that all of the correct trim is still in place. It appears to be in good shape, with a bit of pitting but there is a lack of any obvious corrosion.
A good sign that you are buying a great car that you will form a bond with is how the front end looks. There is a clear face on this Consul with its headlights set apart above the chrome grille that gives it almost a Nigel Mansell-esque moustache.
This classic Consul offers a perfect base for your next classic, with a black canvas you can make this into whatever you wish.

The Mechanics

  • Running and driving
  • Slight work required
  • It will be an excellent car to drive
This little Consul currently runs quite well, with a bit of choke the inline-four fires into life and it’ll idle nicely once everything is up to temperature. The column shift manual gearbox may take some getting used to, but once you have mastered this piece of ‘50s design you will be well on your way to taking this classic on some amazing adventures in the future.
The main area that needs work on this Consul are the brakes, currently, they are non-existent as a new master cylinder is needed to make them work properly. Once you have completed the brake overhaul this should be one great little classic run-about for you and your collection.
When you get this car mechanically sorted it will reward you with some of the best memories you can make with a car. It will sit wonderfully within a classic car show line up and you will enjoy every second spent driving it.

Summary

This Ford Consul offers you a perfect blank canvas to make a classic car around your interests and loves. It provides a very solid base for either a full restoration or a little bit of light recommissioning to get it back on the roads.
When you have got it back on the road it should always turn a few heads as there really isn’t a modern car that looks this good.
