The Appeal
Produced between 1952 and 1955, the Bentley R Type was the well-received successor to the Bentley Mark VI and would be the company’s second series of post-war vehicles. The R Type was rather similar to the Mark VI, but benefits from a larger boot, carburettor tweaks, and rear chassis springs.
Although the R Type proved to be quite a successful model, just shy of 2500 of these luxury vehicles were ever produced, making them a rather rare find in today’s market. With so few original models produced, and as time passes, finding a Bentley R Type in as fantastic condition as this example has become a difficult task.
This particular R Type is in absolutely fantastic condition and is in full working order. The vehicle also benefits from an original interior, just one previous registered keeper, and exceptionally few miles on the clock for its age. This is without a doubt one of the finest examples available today, and will certainly fill the new owner with pride.
The History and Paperwork
• Well maintained example
• Just one previous keeper

Although the vehicle hasn’t needed anything major over the years, buyers will be pleased to know that the car comes with an assortment of previous invoices. Most notable of these is an invoice for power steering to be fitted, and a replacement exhaust system fitting.

The Interior
• Original Interior
• Fantastic condition for the vehicle’s age
• Packed full of luxury touches
• Original under-seat and boot toolkit
The R Type’s interior certainly lives up to Bentley’s luxury standards and is a truly comfortable and pleasant space to find oneself in. As this vehicle benefits from having a fully original interior, you’re transported back in time from the moment you open the door.
The front seats are not only exceptionally comfortable but are in excellent condition for their age. The rear seats follow suit, with only the most minor signs of age. Passengers in the rear are essentially treated to sitting on a leather couch, and a level of classy comfort unseen in today’s vehicles.
All throughout the interior, you’ll find luxury touches like a sliding sunroof, foldable armrests, near immaculate plush carpets, leather trim, and gorgeous wooden accents. Even in the rear, you’ll find picnic tables, rear mirrors, ashtrays, footrests, and a rear cigarette lighter. To complement the toolkit you can find under the seats, you will find in the boot, other than the spare tire, the grease gun along with the rest of the tools.
Overall, the interior has been very well preserved and is a genuinely pleasant space. To find an R Type with the original interior from nearly 70 years ago is rather rare, so this vehicle is certainly one that stands out.
The Exterior
• Stunning paintwork
• Absolutely gorgeous body lines
• In fantastic condition
Throughout its time with the current keeper, and likely the previous owner too, the vehicle has been dry stored and protected from the elements. As a result of this, the exterior condition is fantastic and the car doesn’t appear to suffer from any of the usual signs of age that typically affect cars of this era.
The two-tone paintwork looks absolutely superb, and cannot be understated. Both colours reveal new layers of sparkle in the sunlight, with the roof taking on a range of golden tones in the light. The only notable area of age is towards the front wing lights, but this is only noticeable from particular angles and certainly doesn’t detract from the overall appearance.
All 4 wheels are also in fantastic condition and are wrapped in a matching set of Bridgestone tyres, with plenty of tread for the new owner to enjoy. All chrome, lights, and trim pieces follow suit, with very few noticeable signs of age.
Overall, this Bentley R Type looks superb and has clearly been well taken care of over the years. Finished in what is arguably the best colour pairing for the vehicle, this vehicle stands out from the crowd and will no doubt look excellent as part of a collection or as a weekend toy.
