THE APPEAL
The Sunbeam Motorcycle Company was formed out of Sunbeam Cycles, a division of Wolverhampton-based John Marston Limited, which has been producing pushbikes since the 1830s. Its first bike appeared in 1912.
Known for their sporting, high performance machines, the Sunbeam Motorcycle Company was absorbed by the BSA empire immediately after World War Two. Its S7 and S8 models were inspired by the BMW R75, patents for which were seized during the war. The S7 was a touring bike, the S8 its mechanically identical but lighter equivalent.
Powered by a parallel twin in line with frame and overhead camshaft, it was an unusual machine and a modest seller, with only 8,500 built between 1948 and 1956. This one is a 1949 model presented in smart, mostly original condition.
