The Background

MG were very keen at the end or the second world war to get their factory production lines back to building cars & so the TC was born. It was pretty much an evolution version of the sporty 2-seater TB and TAs built pre-war, although a little wider in the cockpit and had uprated suspension mountings for a better ride.

Built between 1945 and 1949, over 10,000 were produced and exported all over the world and interestingly, all were right hand drive. Succeeded in 1950 by the MG TD.

The History

According to the MG Car T register, this car was built on the 24th of March 1948 and then exported possibly to the USA. Still in California in 2000, it probably returned to Europe around 2003 and was the property of a MR Rinck of Luxembourg before being re-patriated by MG exponent Barry Walker in 2016.

It has at sometime during its recent life had a quality restoration as the photos will clearly show. Subsequently purchased by our vendor un-registered in 2016. He then set about obtaining UK registration which, with the help of the MG Car Club, was easily obtained. Since landing in Derbyshire, the MG has led a cosseted life, driven by its enthusiastic owner only on high days & holidays on jaunts around the local Peak District. It’s been dry stored and pampered accordingly.

The Paperwork

There is a V5c registration document in the owner’s name, a Californian registration document, various receipts for parts & works over the recent years & a dating letter from the MG Car Club T register.

The Interior

Fully restored and although we’re not sure by whom, it’s been carried out to a very high standard. Finished in red leather throughout including door cards, with contrasting black carpeting.  All is in extremely good condition and wants for nothing.

The dash has a full complement of switches & dials the rev counter being a recent replacement item, although the original comes with the car and is hopefully restorable. Overall, an exceptionally tidy cockpit from which to enjoy the view ahead.

The Exterior

Stunning in cream paint & chrome and completed by a black mohair hood. An older restoration with one or two minor blemishes, just adds to this MGs charm.  This MG really has been very well restored throughout and as they say, the camera never lies. No signs of rust, shiny chrome, excellent hood, which comes complete with unused side screens , it’ll gather admiring glances wherever she goes.

The wire wheels have too been restored and are embraced by decent rubber all round. Indicators have been retro fitted, utilising flashing side lights rather than added on and away from the vintage look.

The Mechanics

Engine gearbox and all running gear we’re told are in exceptionally fine fettle working as they should and able to handle both the ups and very importantly the downs of drives in The Peak District. Certainly, for the photoshoot, the car fired up immediately and settled into a smooth tick over as expected but not often achieved.

Moved around easily, there was no juddering of the clutch in forward or reverse and gears appeared to engage freely. Under the bonnet is very clean and tidy showing how well this car is being looked after. It’s wanted for nothing during the current 6 years of ownership as the many receipts show, nothing major, just good routine servicing & maintenance.

The Appeal

Well these post war MGs, whilst still retaining handsome pre-war looks and driving experience, just do the whole thing a little better. Great engine, coupled with better brakes, rubber mounted suspension and a decent turn of speed make the MG TC one of life’s great car to drive and enjoy.

There’s a very strong owners’ movement, great parts availability and of course they’re very simple and easy to maintain.  So, what’s stopping you, this really is a good one , don’t look any further as we’re sure it’ll give immense amounts of pleasure for years to come.
