The Appeal
The Lincoln Continental is a car with a history as unique as its appearance. Purportedly designed in 1938 by Edsel Ford, then president of the Ford Motor Company, it was intended as a strictly one-off personal vehicle for a vacation! The smooth, European style lines and well-to-do specification meant that many of his equally wealthy friends were instantly enamoured.
Barely a few weeks after the one-off was complete, the car entered production. Production halted during WW2, after which famed industrial designer Raymond Loewy - who designed everything from fridges, to locomotives, to Studebakers - upgraded the model to the more powerful appearance you see here.
This example’s attractive colour scheme, glistening chrome and eye-catching whitewalls make for an distinguished profile, and with the upgrades done over the course of its life, this unique example is a fiery piece of 40s art deco that’s laden with 1960s power!
