The Appeal

Strap on your Biggles-style leather helmet, it’s time to transport you back in time to a time when everything was a bit more unique, especially motoring. A time long before the internet, and the television, some would say a much better time.
This MG PA has had some time and money spent on it over the last two decades of its life. It was fully restored in the very early 2000s, it has been with the current owner for some 20 years. Now it is your time to get behind the wheel of this pretty little English classic.

The History and Paperwork

First registered for the road on the 1st of September 1934 it has gone on to live a great life. Within the paperwork, there are a few old-style log books and the up to date V5, should you wish, you could probably plot the whereabouts of the car throughout its life.

Remarkably, within the paperwork, there are some copies of rather old invoices. There is one invoice that could be the proof of purchase. It states that this car, PA-1343, was sold and moved to Leicestershire. There are a few old photocopied invoices for works too, all of which also have the car chassis number present. A few older invoices are present too, from the 1990s and 2000s
The current owner has completed a few works around the car. These include some work to the brakes, a new kingpin, the inclusion of two Brookland screens, and a new head gasket in 2019. Now is the time for you to get behind the wheel of this pre-war classic. Unlike a modern car you are totally in control of how this car runs, it provides a truly memorable driving experience.

The Interior

  • Beautifully trimmed seats
  • Well-presented wooden dashboard
  • Rarer four-seater version
  • Still has the original steering wheel
The interior of this MG is the place to be, not only for the driver but also for the passengers too. Bundle the whole family in and go for a proper vintage themed drive with the wind in your hair and ears filled with the noise of a proper engine.
As you can see, all of the seats have been trimmed in this vibrant green leather. These seats are all presented in a rather good condition indeed, the fabric on the seats appear to have little to no wear or tear visible. Thanks to this condition these seats will be a joy to sit in and explore the roads in. There is some slight marking on one of the rear panels, this is due to the battery compartment being underneath the rear bench. When being stored the battery would have been disconnected and then obviously reconnected when needed.
Unlike a modern car, you are in full control of the car when out driving. Your first point of contact to how the car will drive is of course the steering wheel. You may look at this and think it could do with some work, however, this is believed to be the original so to restore it would remove some of the character it has gained over nearly 100 years. Below the steering wheel are a couple of interesting pre-war nuances. Firstly, the h-pattern gearbox is, in effect, in reverse to how we’d know it today, meaning first is towards you and up. Behind this are a couple of twist dials that help you fettle how the engine is running.
You may have noticed that a lot of the interior parts are surrounded by a familiar shape. Much like the MG badge, they are surrounded by an octagonal surround.
Should you wish to use this vehicle in the wet, or slightly colder weather, there is a soft top roof section that will include a frame and side window section. This wasn’t photographed on the day but are believed to be in good condition.
Overall, the interior is in lovely condition and will be the place where you make so many happy motoring memories in the not too distant future.

The Exterior

  • Lovely chrome condition
  • Good paint condition
  • Well-presented wire wheels
Pre-war motor cars are always beautiful to look at, and this MG PA is no different. From any angle, you wish to observe this car you will be in awe with this cars looks.
Let’s start by looking at the paint and its condition. During its restoration in the early 00s, it was more than likely treated to a re-spray. Since this time, it has always been dry stored in a garage, and has also only covered around 7,000 miles meaning the paint has been preserved well indeed. If you look hard enough, you may pick out a few blemishes but no area that should require major work.
It is not only the paint that makes the exterior, but the chrome is also vital for a pre-war era vehicle. From front to back, the car is adorned with wonderful brightwork that was polished very well for the photo shoot.
An interesting feature on this car is the foldable windscreen. At the twist of a couple of screws, you will be able to fold the windscreen forward revealing the wonderful Brooklands stamped aero screens. One small area that shows presents with some slight damage is the windscreen, you will find a small crack in the bottom left. This shouldn’t be a deal breaker and just indicates that this car has been used properly for journeys out.
Overall, the exterior is presented very well indeed. From front to back, this is a truly wonderful looking car that should garner a lot of attention when out and about.

The Mechanics

  • Good maintenance history
  • Recent engine work
  • Starts on the button
Back in the 1930s, the motor car was an exciting and rare to see spectacle. Today, nearly 100 years later, cars like this are a very rare sight indeed. This example is a great little runner that will be a great addition to your collection indeed.
On the day of the photoshoot, the car started on the button, drove to the location, and then maneuvered around a couple of times. As the car had been sitting for a little time it did take a bit of time to warm her up, and she will also go to the current owner’s garage for a little tune-up to make sure it is firing properly on all of its cylinders.
Within the paperwork, there are a lot of invoices for previous works, and of course, there was the full restoration in the early 2000s which should help indicate that this car has been looked after properly throughout its time on the road. One of the more recent invoices would seem to evidence a recent head gasket change.
Getting behind the wheel of this rare classic will be memorable for sure. With the wind in your hair and the sounds of a proper combustion engine, you will never wish to get out.

Summary

This MG PA is a wonderful example of when Britain ruled the roads. Presented in wonderful condition it will look amazing sitting within your collection, and when you’re done looking at it you can hop in and go for a drive.
There is also the bonus that the four-seater variant of the PA is rarer, making it more sort after. This is usually reflected in the values.
