The Appeal
Approaching its centenary this Singer Senior has aged gracefully throughout its life. During one of its previous ownerships, it has been put through a thorough restoration. It was during this restoration that the original engine was replaced with a more modern, and more reliable, 1100cc A-Series Engine. With its new engine and beautiful looks inside and out this car could provide an excellent wedding car or even a movie car.
The History and Paperwork
- There is a nice sized history file with this Singer
- Present are the up to date V5, the most recent MOT certificate, and invoices from the past
- There are also a lot of old photos from the restoration and time after
- Thanks to the invoices we can picture some of the work that has been carried out
- Some of these include bearings, bolts, an electric fuel pump, and other assorted works
- From the pictures, we can gather that this car has been used for weddings in the past
- This could be an excellent addition to your personal, or business collection
- Don’t miss out on this quirky little pre-war classic
The Interior
- Lovely condition all round
- Upfront you have two lovely grey leather seats
- The leather condition is very good indeed
- It is more than likely that these have been fitted during the previous restoration
- In front of the driver is a lovely dark wooden dashboard
- It would appear that the original speedometer has been replaced in favour of more modern dials
- These help relay the information from the more modern running gear with a higher degree of accuracy
- Although the handbrake has stayed in the original position, the gear stick has been re-located
- This now makes changing gear a lot easier, and getting in and out is a bit easier now
- In the rear is one large grey leather bench seats
- Much like the front, this seat is presented in very good condition as well
- In the rear, there are some lovely touches that you don’t find in modern cars
- These include roller blinds and intricate pull handles
- Inside this pre-war classic is a wonderful place to be and it will always bring a smile to your face
- Thanks to its clean and well-presented interior it should make a perfect hire vehicle for those special events
The Exterior
- Originally finished in a dark blue, it has been repainted in this rather fetching two-tone scheme
- Across the panels, this paintwork is in good to fair condition
- There are some slight scuff marks around the rear and some peeling around the bonnet area
- However, these areas do not detract from the overall charm and character of this pre-war classic
- Dotted around the car are some lovely brass trims
- The wooden running boards have some nice rubberised pads to aid getting in and out
- You’ll also find the battery box on the passenger side, this box has been fitted with a modern kill switch
- On all four corners are some lovely wheels and tyres
- Strapped just behind the front right wheel is the full-sized spare tyre
- This is a lovely classic vehicle that will always bring a smile to the face of an on-looker
- Whether you wish to add it to your personal collection, or heritage fleet, this will perform very well indeed
The Mechanics
- Under the bonnet, you’ll find the more modern and re-built BMC A-Series engine
- This was fitted to avoid any unreliability from the original water-cooled 95-year-old engine
- It is said that the previous owner had new pistons, valve springs, block skims and a new oil pump fitted
- Along with these new engine parts, there was a Kenlow fan fitted and a stealth alternator
- Bolted to the back of this newer engine is an Austin A30 gearbox
- On the day of the photos, the car was maneuvered around easily
- It did require a slight water top up however
- It was also reported by the previous owner that the gearbox can be a bit noisy out on the road
- This should be an excellent working vehicle to add to your fleet
Summary
Knocking on the door of 100 years old this Singer Senior is living up to its name. Thanks to the recent conversion work to more modern running gear it should now be a lot more reliable than the original car. This is a very well-presented classic car that will always do you well wherever you wish to use it.
