THE BACKGROUND

Fifty years after the first Fiat 500 was released the name returned in 2007 with the modern Fiat 500, it was an instant hit and is now a corner stone of modern motoring. It came in many different spec types, but this special little fiat was based on the Sport version.

Fiat consigned 200 of these sport models to be turned into Ferrari Dealer edition. So, if you were to book your Ferrari in for a service you would get one of these pokey superminis as your courtesy car. With 100hp, red brake calipers and more figure-hugging leather seats it was far more special than a basic 500. Only 60 of these came to the UK

THE HISTORY

Originally owned by Dick Lovett in Cardiff as their courtesy car it was bought by the current owner in December of 2008 with only 1,945 miles on the clock and has remained in their ownership since. In their ownership there have only been minimal miles put onto the car and as such the interior and exterior are in great condition, only the wheels show signs of use.

With this little Fiat being something special it has been well looked after and kept in a garage when not in use, its thanks to this that the Ferrari Rosso Corsa paint is in great condition. It even has the original Blue and Me Sat Nav, something which is something you don’t see very often.

THE PAPERWORK

The car comes with some paperwork that allows you to see what works have been done to the little 500. With it being low milage and still fairly new there are no major invoices, but you can see that services have been undertaken when they are necessary.

It comes with two keys, one being the ‘proper’ Fiat 500 key and one being more of an emergency key. With the car you will also get 2 brand new alloys. One thing to note is that this car has 2 V5s, this is because of a data breach within the DVLA which meant a new V5 was issued for security reasons. Note the personalised plate is not included and it will revert to the original plate (LO08 XUK).

THE INTERIOR

With the car having so few miles on the clock you can imagine that the interior is in great condition. The leather seats are certainly more figure hugging than a ‘normal’ 500 and they show little to no signs of wear with no rips or tears.

The steering wheel is clean with the red contrast stitching looking like new. A couple of special features on the interior is the sunroof, aluminium pedals and the six-speed gearbox. It also has the all-important sport button on the dash which will make the 100hp engine sing.

The only thing of note to consider about this 500 is that the boot will only release with the button on the key, you cannot operate it with the button under the piece of 500 trim on the car.

THE EXTERIOR

The modern 500 has inherited all of its cute and quirky design from its predecessor, Fiats original 500, which has allowed to gain a piece of modern automotive design history. The two things on the exterior that set this apart from the standard 500 are the two prancing horse emblems on the front wings of the car and the Ferrari Rosso Corsa red paint. Both of these were exclusive at the time to this version of the 500.

With thanks to the low milage and the fact that when it’s not in use it has been kept in garage the exterior condition is great. It had picked up one battle scar resulting in a dent on the nearside back wheel arch, but this was recently rectified and as of today you cannot tell.

The only issue to note on the exterior is the fact the alloy wheels have some curb damage; some alloys are worse than the others. But just remember that there are 2 spare and brand-new alloys that come with the car.

THE MECHANICS

This Fiat has been looked after mechanically with work, such as servicing, carried out when it was needed. As such the car is in great mechanical condition.

With this Ferrari Dealer Edition of the Fiat 500 being fitted with a more fizzy 100hp engine it pushes you along the road at some speed. With this being mated to the six-speed gearbox the option to cruise along a motorway has become more comfortable than the more generic five-speed box that many normal models were fitted with.

All of this culminates into a fun little supermini that is fit with a special exhaust by Magnetti Marelli.

THE APPEAL

With this Fiat 500 being one of sixty in the UK you can already tell that this is a truly special and bespoke version of a much loved modern classic. All of the basis for a great little car have been covered, sporty engine, sportier seats, a great exhaust note and a Ferrari badge. What more could you want from a car that is cheap to run but also more special and rarer than most sports car.

This type of Ferrari Fiat 500 is highly collectable and can be used as a daily run about or as a part of your rare car collection.
