THE APPEAL

Replacing a legend is never easy, but in 1969 the original giant-killing Mini Cooper had run its course. With BMC morphing into British Leyland, ties with John Cooper were soon-to-be-severed and the next generation of performance Mini would instead be based on the new ‘ADO 20’ body – that of the square-nosed Mini Clubman.
It had a slow start, but the 1275 GT soon became a legend in its own right, with a substantial record of circuit racing success and a distinctive style all of its own, somehow more mature and sophisticated than the round-nose Minis thanks to its revised fascia and more upmarket trim.
Today, the 1275 GT is an extremely sought-after Mini variant in its own right, and if you’re in the market for one then this example is about as good as they get. It was discovered in a garage in early 2022 and underwent a 10-month long restoration with a Mini enthusiast, being stripped back to bare metal and repainted in its original Pageant Blue, but with as much of the original car preserved as possible. The interior is mostly original, the engine overhauled and the bodyshell largely original, with localised repairs.
It comes with a full photo record of its restoration and lots of history, right back to the 1980s. You’ll struggle to find another 1275 GT anything like it…

SUMMARY

If you’re in the market for a 1275 GT then this one has to be one of the very best examples available – it’s as simple as that. Fresh from a diligent and carefully detailed programme of restoration, the temptation to modify the car was resisted in favour of it being finished in factory specification and it looks absolutely terrific, finished in a suitably Seventies and original colour scheme.
This is a truly gorgeous car – a show standard Mini in one of the most desirable specifications, beautifully detailed and impeccably finished. An absolute gem, ready for a collector to truly appreciate.
