1963 MG Midget Mk I

The Appeal
Alongside the flagship MGA and latterly MGB, BMC wished to continue producing a budget-friendly compact sports car following the success of the MG T-Type and ‘Frogeye’ Sprite. Dubbed the ‘Midget’, their post-1961 offering would remain in production for eighteen years.
We’re delighted to present this cherished 1963 Mk I which has reportedly participated in numerous events during current ownership. Complete with a GRP hard-top, tonneau cover and soft-top, it’s a versatile little car that’s also in very good overall condition.
The History and Paperwork
- Chassis number: GAN2L/21770 - marks this out as a 1963 example
- First registered in July 1964
- Left-hand drive European-supplied example
- Registered with the Automotoclub Storico Italiano
- ASI Oro status

The Condition
- Signal Red paintwork in very good overall condition - rated 10/10 by the vendor

- Period correct controls, including the charming two-spoke steering wheel
- Discreet auxiliary gauges fitted under the dashboard

- Steel wheels painted silver and complete with chromed hubcaps
- All the trim presents well
- The underside is immensely smart, with no signs of excessive corrosion
The Mechanics
- 1098 cc A Series engine mounted longitudinally and driving the rear wheels

- Four-speed manual gearbox
- Added electric cooling fan - a sensible addition in hotter climes
- The electric fuel pump pump is apparently in working order
- The vendor reports that it drives very well, although has not been fully serviced in some time
