The idea of a Shropshire Section of the VMCC came about when a Policeman, Dave Spencer, was posted to Shrewsbury and he discovered that there wasn't a local section. He contacted Ken Hallworth of the Old Bike Mart fame, who put him in contact with Ceddy Bunce, this being in late 1982. They met at The Station Inn, Marshbrook on 25th January 1983, February saw them at Ceddy Bunce's house at Church Stretton. The first Committee consisted of Ceddy Bunce (Chairman), Wendy Bunce (Secretary), Ron Maund (Treasurer), and Committee Members Dave Spencer, Ray Hills, John Withers, Don Kennaugh and Phil Mayo.
For many years meetings took place at The Station Inn, then a move to The Grapes in Shrewsbury, then back to The Station Inn next to The Horseshoes Inn, Dorrington The Ragleth Little Stretton, Affcott Lodge and now we are at The Inn on the Green Wentnor
The first run was organised by Dave Spencer and was called The Castrol Castles run which was taken over by Ian Morris. Ian also ran The Long Mountain Run for over 20 years.
Many thanks to former Committee Members, especially Dave Spencer and his diary!
Current Chairman & Scribe Derek Trow started attending late in 1983, when a chance meeting with Jim Reynolds at Shrewsbury Motorcycle Show held at the Music Hall, Jim mentioned that a Section of the Vintage Motorcycle Club had been formed in the Shropshire area. Derek has always been a motorcycle fanatic.
