In 1992 a group of vehicle enthusiasts got together concerned that owners of popular classic cars were not being provided for in Jersey. They formed a steering group and a meeting was called which was well attended, especially by members of other speciality car clubs eager to be brought under the shelter of an umbrella organisation for better insurance deals, spare parts and the sharing of information. Concerns did not only apply to cars but also motorcycles. The outcome of the meeting was the formation of the Jersey Classic Vehicle Club. The first secretary of the club declared that there had not been a club for vehicles which were not strictly vintage or veteran but "were popular classics" and he defined that term as any vehicle, car or motorbike, in which the owner takes a great interest.
The President at the time, in welcoming members aboard the Club expressed gladness that there was now, at last, a club for people with every sort of classic car or bike, not just vintage cars, not just "special make only" clubs-one big Jersey Club for every type of Jersey Classic.
The club would provide a platform for displaying members' cherished cars or bikes to other enthusiasts and also to the public. Within two months of formation the club had 40 members and so popular has it become that in early 2009
when this website was created, that number had increased to 200 members owning approx 400 vehicles, not only motorcycles, but also vans, lorries, tractors, military vehicles and even a fire engine.
The Jersey Classic Vehicle Club meets at 11am on the last Sunday of every month. Numerous events, get togethers and socials are held throughout the year at locations throughout the Island. Brittany and Guernsey are further locations where the club is welcomed by similar organisations.
