Austin Cambridge A55 – One Family Owner SOLD

Austin Cambridge A55 – One Family Owner

In January 1957, the A55 Cambridge was introduced to replace the aging A50. The new model had been restyled somewhat and now had a larger boot with much larger rear window. The car proved very popular with the public and over the next two years over 154, 000 cars were produced with the two tone colour scheme being an expense option when new.

We are delighted to offer an absolutely stunning A55 purchased new in December 1957 by Mrs Daisy Smith and now being sold on the open market for the first time. Mrs Smith used her new Cambridge sparingly in and around Studlands and had covering just 536 when the car received it’s free 500mile service on 28th February 1958. There are three BMC stamped service books (the third has been stamped up twice) showing that by October 1967 the Cambridge had covered just under 38, 000 miles. Every MOT is with the car from 1963, the first year of MOT testing, to 1987 when the recorded mileage was 53, 834 – speedometer turned 55, 000miles this weekend when we used the car for a local show.

When Daisy gave up driving the Austin passed to her son and, after a period of use, the Cambridge was treated to a full glass out, photographic respray in original colours before going into storage and then passing to Daisy’s grandson who still retains fond memories of drives down to Studland Bay as a child.

Original cars of this age, with low ownership, warranted mileage are extremely rare. Ideal for Goodwood Revival/ Races, classic car shows or simply family trips to the pub we recommend early viewing to avoid disappointment.
