Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Timed Online Auction - 24th April on Thursday the 24th of April. Background:
The Toyota Hilux has become one of the most sought-after modern classics in recent years. Given that many were heavily used as work trucks, demand for examples in mint condition far outstrips supply. The Hilux began production in March 1968 and needs no introduction among car enthusiasts as one of the most rugged and indestructible trucks you can buy — not to mention one of the coolest. Immortalised as Marty McFly’s daily driver in Back to the Future and again by Top Gear, where they failed to destroy a Hilux despite their best efforts, it has proven to be virtually immortal.
The Car:
Offered here is possibly one of the most original Hilux single cabs available, boasting not only an unwelded body and chassis and original paint, but also virtually everything the car came with from new. This isn't just limited to the original book pack and service book — this truck still carries its toolkit, tonneau cover, load liner, OE radio, original dealer sticker, original dealer keyring, and original dealer number plates. Mats and waterproof seat covers are also genuine and only two years old. Supplied new by Loders of Dorchester, it has remained local its entire life and has been owned by just two people — both from the same family.
The history is also second to none, with 23 stamps in the service book despite having covered a genuine 39, 000 miles. Virtually every receipt, tax disc and invoice is with the car, as is every MOT certificate from new. The chassis has never been welded, and neither has the body. The load liner has been lifted up, and we gather it does not conceal any corrosion beneath — the paint is like new. Unusually for a Hilux, it has never even had a tow bar fitted. Never repainted, the only body imperfections are a few stone chips on the bumper and a mark on the bonnet.
