Description
1980 Ford Escort 1600 Sport. RHD Import from South Africa with all tax and duty paid. UK reg has been applied for. This car is in its original sunflower colour and is a genuine sport. Both the original vin plate and build plate are intact. It starts runs and drives but will need a bit work to get it on the road properly.
Body - Export spec sport shell with similar strengthening to our RS models. Good original inner wings, strut tops, rear arches, sills, pillars. Has had a repair on the bottom of the heater bubble in the past which is solid enough but they have lost the seam between the bubble and scuttle, so if your used to looking at these cars its noticeable. Its also had repairs on front floors which have been done using proper panels but you can see its had a repair. Could be tidied up and made to look proper without redoing it. Battery tray has a hole on the base of it. Spare wheel well has had a repair in the past as well, which probably needs redoing. Rear floors, boot floor and chassis rails are all original and solid. Car has been repainted at some point and is perfectly useable and presentable. If you wanted a show winner its probably not this one. Ive had the magnet out and the bottom of both wings, both doors, both sills are all good. Evidence of a bit of filler on the lower quarter at the spare wheel well. Tank well side is ok.
Mechanics - AX Block 1600 crossflow and standard 4 speed box. Car starts, runs and drives. Engine sounds fine, brakes, clutch and gearbox feel fine. Carb will either need adjusted or replaced. Its the olcer type carb as found on a 1600E cortina. There is no choke mechanism in it, so it takes 5 mins to warm it up. Think its probably better to replace it with the correct type Weber . All lights were working when we tested it. Horn wasnt working. As with any old car this will need a good checkover from front to back before being used in anger.
interior - Original interior. Everything is perfectly useable but looks a wee bit tired. Steering wheel has been recovered and its too thick. Great to drive with but just looks wrong. Headcloth is original and good.
Wheels- Capri Laser wheels similar to RS Alloys with very good 185 / 60 / 13 Alloys and new wheel nuts.
This is not a minter but is a tidy prospect for someone to spend a bit money on to take it to the next level without it being a full on rebuild.
