Lot 403
1978 BMW 980cc R100/ 7
Registration no. KFV 893S
Frame no. 6145499 R100/ 7
Engine no. 6145499
Just a few years after introducing the R90/ 6 and R90S, BMW upped the capacity of its range-topping flat-twins to 980cc for the 1977 season in the form of the '/ 7' series. The latter comprised the R100/ 7 tourer, which used the 60bhp version of the new engine, while the cockpit-faired R100S sportster and the fully faired R100RS superbike came with 70bhp on tap. Within a couple of years the R100/ 7 'naked' had been re-titled R100T and gained an extra five horsepower while the others - together with the new R100RT super-tourer - continued to use the 70bhp engine.
First registered in the UK in 2017, this BMW R100/ 7 was purchased by the vendor a few years ago and has been dry stored since. It has been used occasionally but will need checking and/ or recommissioning before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. No previous history is known or where the BMW was imported from, though the presence of an mph speedometer would suggest that it most likely came from North America. Offered with a V5C document and an undated service invoice (new tyres/ tubes, oil filter, battery, etc).
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
