Description
This Cherokee 4. 0L 60th Anniversary Edition is a highly original, rust-free example with only 55, 000 miles and one owner from new. The original owner of the car is an American lawyer based in London and hence wanted his Cherokee in left-hand drive configuration. This being the case, the car was ordered through Kien Chrysler in The Netherlands and driven directly to the UK on export licence, where it was registered as ‘Y374 NOY’. All of this early correspondence is in the large history file, including the original bill of sale and various factory certificates.
Being a 60th Anniversary Edition - a final-year run out model for the XJ Cherokee - the car was very highly specified as standard. This included: full leather interior, heated seats, air-conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels, remote central-locking and more. Therefore, as stated on the original bill of sale, the only optional extras on this Cherokee were metallic ‘Silverstone’ paint and insurance, with the total coming to 51, 300. 60 NLG. Being a London-based car its entire life, the Cherokee has only travelled an average of 2, 300 miles per year; and with it being parked off-street, it has also been preserved exceptionally well.
Today, the odometer reads just under 89, 000 km and the car remains in excellent, unmolested condition. The Silverstone Grey exterior looks to be mostly original and in very good order, with only a couple of minor marks to be found: one chip on the bonnet shut-line and a chipped area below the fuel filler door. The black bumper corners, door handles and wing mirrors are free from scuffs and fading, although the metal roof rails have started to fade, being that bit more exposed to the elements. The colour-coded 5-spoke wheels have corrosion in areas on the machined lips (photos of which can be sent), however the paint on them is very good and they have been shod in new General Grabber GT tyres all-round.
Coming from a non-smoking and pet-free household, the Grey leather interior is in near-immaculate condition, which is exceptionally rare for an XJ Cherokee. The only sign of age is some creasing on the front seat bases, with the entirety of the interior having no tears, holes or discolouration. The rear seats look to have rarely been used, and the plastics are all in perfect order with no cracks, scratches or scuffs. All of the switchgear and electronics work as they should, including the rare original AM/ FM/ Cassette radio.
Lastly, and most importantly, the underside of the car is also in very good, original condition. The body has been remarkably well-preserved and is completely rot-free with no evidence of dodgy repairs or aftermarket undersealing. The original factory coatings remain throughout, and it’s clear that no one has attempted to hide or disguise anything underneath, which gives full peace of mind when inspecting. The suspension and axle components do have some surface corrosion to them in places, as do a few of the spot welds. This can be easily rectified, but we have left them untreated to show the honesty and originality of the car to any potential buyers. We would recommend brushing it off and protecting the components before using the car in the winter months.
As previously mentioned - being a one-owner car - the history file is quite substantial, with all books present and every piece of documentation on file from the first 9 years of the Cherokee’s life. The service book has been stamped every year by Jeep main dealers up to 2009 (67k km) (with invoices to back this up) and then London-based independent TJ Kane up to 2016 (84k km), at which point the car was taken out of regular use. It still retains its Kien Chrysler Arnhem number plate surrounds, boot sticker and key rings on both keys, another testament to its originality.
The car is MOT’d until 9th Feb 2026 and will be freshly serviced for its second owner. Please contact Greg with any questions or to arrange a viewing at our studio in Bicester.
