Lot 268
1957 AJS 500cc Model 18S
Registration no. see text
Frame no. A51141
Engine no. 57/ 18S 130275 (see text)
Believed unrestored
39, 732 miles to the odometer
A seemingly unmolested example
Displaying a somewhat worn 'Godfreys of Croydon' decal to the front fork, this believed unrestored AJS Model 18S appears original and correct. Dry stored when not in use and currently displaying a believed correct total of 39, 732 miles on the odometer (at the time of cataloguing/ photography). The machine is said to be ready to serve its new owner over many miles of reliable service. Despite the large number of AJS and Matchless motorcycles produced during the 1950s, it is unusual to have the opportunity to purchase such an unmolested example.
Exported to Guernsey in 2015, this AJS Model 18S comes with a Guernsey Registration Certificate for '12369' and copy of its old V5C registration document for 'TUC 844'. It should be noted that Vehicle Registration Number 'TUC 844' is associated with a 2015 'Export' marker in the HPI/ DVLA database. Accordingly, prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to the validity and status of this motorcycle's registration prior to bidding. The successful purchaser is responsible for applying to the DVLA to retrieve the vehicle's registration number. It should be noted the Guernsey Registration Certificate, RF. 60, and copy V5C all omit the '57/ 18S' engine number prefix. Additional documents include a tax reminder; DVLA correspondence; a tax disc (2014); sundry invoices; expired MoTs; and various handwritten letters.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
