Lot 230
Property of a deceased's estate
c. 1954 BSA 498cc Gold Star
Registration no. 954 UYE
Frame no. CB32. 780
Engine no. CB34. GS. 885.
This Gold Star's date of first registration is given as March 2014 (although declared manufactured in 1954). The BSA Bantam Riders Register dating letter (for the registration process) confirms that the date of manufacture is 1954. The frame and engine started life in two different bikes, both being sent to the USA, one in 1954, one in 1955.
'954 UYE' was purchased by the late owner in 2015 and comes with the purchase invoice for £17, 995. There is also an invoice for repainting the tank in 2017, plus other invoices amounting to over £2, 750. The odometer reading of 353 miles is presumed the distance covered since restoration. It should be noted that the RR T2 gearbox has been re-stamped, and that the carburettor, silencer, oil tank, toolbox, and front wheel size are incorrect, while the fuel tank is possibly a pattern item. An electric start has been fitted and the engine turns over with good compression.
The machine is offered with a V5C registration document; BSA Gold Star (500cc) spares books (original and reproduction); 500cc OHV Maintenance Manual BSA Service Sheets; and a copy of The BSA Gold Star by Mick Walker. Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning to a greater or lesser extent and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Key not required.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
