Velocette's radical overhead camshaft four stroke Model K had joined the range in 1925, and been raced at the TT that year, but without distinction, when all three entries failed to finish due to rocker problems. Their initial victory would not be until the junior race of 1926 with Alec Bennett the victor. Having been firmly committed to two-stroke engines up to this point, the Bennett victory sealed Velocette's change of tack, and thenceforth the company's future would forever be linked mainly to four-strokes, and cammy engines in particular. The KSS was a sports version of the model K. It was introduced in 1925, initially with a three-speed gearbox. Later fitted with a four-speed gearbox, it was superseded by the Mark II in 1936 with an alloy cylinder head, Webb Forks, and enclosed valve gear.
The private vendor acquired this KSS in April 1978 and, whilst he kept a note book for the bike, logging details of all work done to it, nothing is recorded until Winter 2011/ 12. It appears to have been used for a few local club runs. The machine has not been used since 2013, and careful re-commissioning and safety checks are recommended before use, hence sold strictly as seen. Documentation comprises a current V5C, an old V5C, and the aforementioned vehicle maintenance note book. Key not required.
