c. 1975 Yamaha 72cc TY80
Registration no. Unregistered
Frame no. the details below
Engine no. the details below
As part of Yamaha's TY series, which was introduced in the early 1970s, the TY80 was designed specifically for younger riders or beginners entering the trials world. The TY80 quickly became popular due to its approachable size, manageable power, and excellent handling, making it ideal for riders looking to learn and hone their trials skills.
The TY80 features a 72cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces around 6 horsepower, delivering enough power for novice trials riders while maintaining excellent control. The engine is paired with a four-speed gearbox, allowing smooth transitions between gears. Its compact steel frame and lightweight design contributed to its agility and stability, crucial for manoeuvring through challenging trials courses. The bike is equipped with long-travel suspension at both the front and rear, providing the necessary compliance over uneven terrain. In terms of design, the 1975 TY80 had a minimalist, rugged look typical of trials bikes of the era, with a simple fuel tank, flat seat, and knobby tires designed for maximum grip on slippery surfaces. The bike's low seat height and relatively low weight made it an ideal choice for younger or less experienced riders looking to get involved in the sport of trials riding. the details below was purchased by the vendor for his children to learn to ride on, but has not been used for approximately 20 years, and will therefore require re-commissioning and safety checks before use by a new owner, hence sold strictly as seen. The engine turns over. There are no documents with this machine. Key not required.
