"Before the word Superbike was even in the vocabulary of most fans he had won TT F1 world titles and Isle of Man TTs, set a Mountain Circuit lap record that lasted for seven years, and won the World Endurance Championship." - Julian Ryder on Carl Fogarty, World Superbike Winners.

Blackburn's Carl Fogarty is a legend in his own lifetime. Born on July 1st 1966, Carl made his road-race debut towards the end of the 1983 season at his local track, Aintree. Being born into a racing family undoubtedly helped Carl in his novice days, with father George, a capable short circuit and TT rider in his own right, on hand to guide and encourage the youngster. Despite his later success on superbikes, Carl at first seemed destined for a career in the 250 class, before a twice broken leg left him unable to fit comfortably on the diminutive quarter-litre racers. The enforced switch to superbikes would prove a blessing in disguise. The rest, as they say, is history.

Before the start of his successful career in the World Superbike Championship (winning the title in 1994, 1995, 1998 and 1999), Carl had won the 1988 and 1989 TT Formula 1 World Championships riding Honda RC30s, and scored his debut Isle of Man TT win in the '89 Production 750 event on the machine offered here. First registered to Honda UK Ltd on 9th February 1989, 'F908 RLD' comes with a signed letter from George Fogarty to our vendor dated 22nd October 1989 stating: "This is to certify the 1989 RC30 is the motorcycle ridden by Carl in the 1989 IOM 750cc Production TT race, which he won." The machine also comes with copies of the original and second V5 registration documents listing our vendor as second owner from 22nd October 1989.

Currently displaying a total of 2, 420 miles on the odometer, this historic Honda features sponsors' logos from Arai, Kushitani, Motad, Regina chain, Metzeler, Belstaff, Ferodo, NGK, Gemini oil and Winfields of Haslingden. There is also a faded scrutineering sticker and a '30 Years of Honda at the Isle of Man TT' sticker, plus the inevitable scuffs and blemishes commonly associated with racing motorcycles. Also in the file is an unused 1991 tax disc and some photographs of the machine on show display at the Isle of Man TT. An wonderful piece of Carl Fogarty and Honda racing history.

All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
