"Thousands found them ideal for short rips, whether to station, office or shops, and they were soon to be seen about in large numbers. Some were even fitted to tandems, where they proved equal to the task of hauling two people along at 20mph." - Roy Bacon, British Motorcycles of the 40's and 50's.
The Vincenti Piatti-designed 'Mini-Motore' was one of the most successful clip-on cyclemotors that helped get the masses back on two wheels in the aftermath of WW2. The engine unit was manufactured in the UK as the 'Mini-Motor' by Trojan Ltd of Croydon, South London, progressing through Mks I to V between 1949 and 1955. It was designed to be mounted above the bicycle's rear wheel, which was driven by a friction roller on the end of the crankshaft, while the fuel tank sat above the engine. As was the norm for two-strokes of the era, the Mini-Motor relied on petroil lubrication. A top speed of around 30mph was achievable.
This example is attached to a gentleman's bicycle. The machine has been repainted but its mechanical condition is not known. Following a period of inactivity the machine will require recommissioning before further use and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Offered without documents. Key not required.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
