c. 1951 Vincent 499cc Comet
Registration no. RFC 830
Frame no. RC/ 1/ 8662 Rear frame no. RC/ 1/ 8662
Engine no. F5AB/ 2A/ 4926 (see text) Crankcase mating no's. 14N / 14N
An older restoration, this Vincent Comet currently displays a total of 2, 910 miles on the odometer, which is presumed to be the distance covered since the rebuild. Believed to have had only three owners since 1985, the machine is offered with V5C, four expired MoT certificates from the 1980s and two photocopied V5 documents, one in the name of our late vendor, who purchased it in 1993. It should be noted that the V5C and old V5s list the original (since replaced) engine, number 'F5AB/ 2A/ 6762'. The Vincent Owners Club advise that engine number 'F5AB/ 2A/ 4926' is originally from a Series-C Comet despatched from the factory in September 1950 to a dealer called Costin in Southend. The upper and rear frames numbered 'RC/ 1/ 8662' are from a Series-C Comet despatched to Kings in Oxford in May 1951. As far as is known, 'RFC 830' is the original registration for the motorcycle with the aforementioned frame number.
Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning or possibly more extensive restoration before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed (the engine turns over). Key not required.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
