We are delighted to present for sale this 1966 Land Rover®️ Series 2a which has been previously rebuilt onto a galvanised chassis (to a high specification), presented in the rare to see limestone colour scheme with Sand Canvas.
Externally, this has all the period features one would hope to see with a recent bumper, recent canvas, original black and silver plates with 3D lettering, rear grab handles, bonnet mounted spare, wing top mounted mirrors etc etc. We really feel that the photos speak for themselves on this one – and we struggle to think of a better looking Series 2a we’ve seen in recent times. The colour contrast of the galvanised chassis with that limestone body just gives a real ‘pop’ which we hope the images portray as well as the eye does in the flesh!
On the inside, there are three standard front seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells and door cards to the front doors for that premium feel. It is great to see the driver and passenger seats adjust for reach – very uncommon to see. A heater with front demist means this Series can be used no matter the weather without the fear of icing up. The rear houses a pair of bench seats, with a mat to the floor area to protect against scratches… this means that the whole family can come along on trips due to this vehicle being able to seat seven people including the driver. The canvas with side windows affords a light and airy feel to the inside, and will be very much appreciated by both the driver – making the blind spot much easier to check – but also rear passengers who can see out, too. Even the tailgate chains have covers which stops them rattling against the bodywork in motion.
As you’ll have gathered from the above advert, this 1966 Series 2a has benefitted from a rebuild in times past – which has been carried out to a high standard… this included a turner engineering engine which, according to the previous keeper, has covered less than 1000 miles since completion. A Weber carburettor has also been added for extra power over standard. Everywhere one cares to look you can see evidence of new parts fitted – the master and slave cylinders, a new fuel tank, lots of new brake parts, new props, new exhaust, etc etc. It has clearly been very well cared for & it is a testament to the previous keepers’ diligence. Indeed, a rebuild of this standard would cost more than the price of this car today – and that’s not including the donor vehicle costs. A new battery with quick release terminals under the bonnet means both a deterrent against theft and the ability to disconnect the system if leaving in a garage for longer periods to prevent battery drains.
This means that when out on the road, you get the best possible period enhanced drive – with the raspy exhaust encouraging you to press on, and thanks to the recent works underneath, it stops well and steers just as it should. The unseasonably warm weather we’re currently enjoying meant a ‘shades on’ & canvas rolled up ultra-cool drive, which we really enjoyed – so much so, we did the test route twice, opting to loop around and go through the market square again!
In summary then, if you are looking for a galvanised chassis Series 2a which can carry the entire family in vintage cool, then this could be for you. With the added bonus’ of the money spent, MOT & Tax Exemption and Classic Insurance – it should prove to be both a solid investment for the future whilst being as hassle free as possible in the longer term too.
