Description
Delage DI four seat Tourer
Launched in 1924, three years before this car offered today, the DI was a well specified car, powered by a 2. 1 litre overhead valve engine with 4-speed gearbox and 4-wheel brakes.
Exceptional performance was noted in the day, riding comfortably with light and responsive steering, built to a high standard and capable of handling rough roads of the period – as well as today
Selecting reverse is intriguing for it is found one movement forward of the first gear which is already selected, so in fact manoeuvring in tight or any spaces between 1st and reverse is a doddle with the clutch depressed only once.
This car has quite a few modifications made in the past, but is mostly correct. Modern shock absorbers, SU carburetter, unusual dashboard and switches, and English Autovac fitted. New side screens were made recently but have not been used and are in the boot.
Hood and tonneau cover all appear correct.
From the Delage records this car was made in 1927 but the dashboard plate is curious and not a standard fitting or number.
We don't know of the body builder, although a plate bearing a Paris coachbuilder "Belvavalette" appears on the car - but it looks to be in very good condition with a great leather interior.
Recently purchased to accompany another Delage in the same garage, sadly the owner died shortly after purchase, having never driven this car - and so is re-offered for sale by his widow.
This car is located in the West Midlands, close to Worcester
