The Porsche 930 Turbo we offer comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity stating that it is a 1978 model completed on 7th November 1977 and delivered new to Porsche Cars Great Britain Limited. The car was factory finished in Grand Prix White with Martini side stripes and blue leather colour-coded interior. The following options were specified by its first owner: impact absorbers, stamping foil, Sports seats, air conditioning, electric sunroof, and the evocative Martini livery (Martini was sponsoring Porsche's competitions programme at the time). The Porsche was delivered new via Malaya Garage in Billingshurst, Sussex, to J E Baty & Co Ltd of Burgess Hill, Sussex. It is one of very few right-hand drive original Martini-liveried cars and the only one fitted with factory Sports seats.
In 2004/ 2005 the car was restored at great expense by Porsche specialists Graham Green Cars near Preston. The original engine and gearbox were completely rebuilt and a new clutch assembly fitted (bills and photographic record on file). Following its concours-standard body and mechanical restoration, the 930 was later displayed as a showroom promotional car by Porsche GB (photographs in file). As well as the restoration records, the comprehensive history file contains numerous MoTs dating back to 1984, many tax discs, details of all owners, a current V5C Registration Certificate and all bills and invoices for works carried out since new. The file also includes the original wallet, spare keys, owner's handbook and service booklet - the latter stamped regularly up to September 1998 at 93, 021 miles and containing one other entry, stamped on 3rd May 2017 at 100, 856 miles. The current odometer reading is circa 104, 000 miles.
Our vendor purchased the car from the owner of JZM Porsche, who in turn had purchased it from a well-known collection in April 2017, since when it has covered circa 3, 000 miles. Regular servicing and maintenance have been carried out by Porsche Centre Mid-Sussex (2018) and well-known specialists Paragon (in 2020, 2021 and 2023). In 1987 'PUP 289' featured in a lengthy article in Classic Motor magazine while in the ownership of Mr Gilbert Hayes, who had purchased the Porsche when it had done 70, 000 miles (copy article on file).
Described by the vendor as 'in fantastic condition and, crucially, maintains the original feel of the car when new, which is testament to the uncompromising restoration carried out by Graham Green'. It is rare for Porsche Turbo Martinis to enter the market, and particularly so in this condition.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
