Lot 176

1976 Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 Coupé
Registration no. EHJ 843P
Chassis no. 19489

• One of 524 built between 1972 and 1976
• Delivered new to France
• Refinished in its original colour scheme of Oro Kelso with black leather interior
• Matching chassis, engine, gearbox and rear axle
• Present ownership since 2022

"Most important was the double overhead cam engine. Like Rolls-Royce, no horsepower figure was quoted, but surely it was at least 320. More important was its massive amount of torque. Taken together with the turbine-like characteristics of the V12 engine, it mattered little which gear one was in or at what speed." – Stanley Nowak on the 356 GT4 2+2, Ferrari on the Road.

Introduced towards the end of 1972, the 365 GT4 2+2 was the biggest and best equipped four-seater Ferrari so far. Flagship of the Maranello range, it reaffirmed Ferrari's determination to compete with the world's finest luxury saloons. Based on the preceding 365 GT 2+2, albeit lower, longer and wider, the newcomer was fitted with a four-cam version of the 4. 4-litre V12 engine while retaining its predecessor's mechanical underpinnings. A total of only 524 had been completed by the time production ceased in 1976, of which only 94 were supplied to the UK.

This left-hand drive example was delivered new to the official Ferrari dealer, Charles Pozzi of Paris, and is believed to have lived most of its life in France. Invoice copies on file dated March 2021 record the fact that this 365 GT4 2+2 was refinished in its original and distinctive Oro Kelso (gold metallic), which is complemented by a contrasting black leather interior. The latter reflects the tastes and technology of the day, boasting a wood-trimmed centre console housing the tape deck sound system, and a period-correct car phone installation. The car features Cromodora alloy wheels and comes with a spare.

The car has been owned by our vendor since 2022. A Ferrari factory build sheet may be found in the car's history file confirming that its chassis, engine, gearbox, and rear axle are all matching-numbers components. There is no denying that Pinifarina's handsome yet understated lines have stood the test of time, appearing as fresh today as they did 50 years ago. The ideal choice for anyone looking for a stylish Gran Turismo to enjoy this summer.

All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
