Description
1984 - Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Chassis n° VF3741R76E5100008 French registration " A rare second-hand T16, in the same collection since 1987 " In 1983, Peugeot launched the 205 on the market. The manufacturer was in financial difficulties at the time and its future depended on the success of this new model. To boost its image, Peugeot decided to enter competition with a model similar to the 205. The 205 Turbo 16 was developed to take part in the World Rally Championship in the premier Group B category. The regulations stipulated that 200 examples of a production version had to be manufactured in order to obtain homologation. The 205 Turbo 16 'series 200' was presented by the Sochaux-based manufacturer at the 1984 Geneva Motor Show. This body-built 205 was distinguished by its Magnum Grey bodywork with red edging, manufactured by Heuliez. It was then assembled by Peugeot Talbot Sport in Boulogne and fitted with a turbocharged 1. 8-litre 4-cylinder XU engine that gave it 200 bhp. With its all-wheel drive system, it is extremely efficient. Some customers will even opt for a PTS kit to boost its power to 300 bhp, almost as much as the competition version. Inside, the T16 has a special dashboard featuring a host of instruments, a two-spoke steering wheel with Turbo 16 lettering and a perforated aluminium pedal unit. The two-tone leather and fabric bucket seats featured an imposing lion on the back, like a warrior's coat of arms. 219 examples were produced. The objective was achieved, as the 205 Turbo 16 became one of the most emblematic cars in Group B, winning the world championship in 1985 and 1986. The abolition of this category sent it prematurely into retirement, but Peugeot was able to bounce back by successfully taking part in the Paris-Dakar Rally, adding a little more to its image as an icon of the 1980s. The car we are presenting here is one of the first 205 Turbo 16 200 series. It was put on the road on 14 June 1984 in the name of the company S. I. E. and bore the registration number 144 FZJ 75. Based at 65 rue de Rivoli in Paris, this company specialised in industrial cleaning and was responsible for the upkeep of the Peugeot factories at Poissy. It was run by Michel Delfau, who was also president of the 205 Turbo 16 Club. He kept the car until February 1987, when he sold it to its current second owner, who had clocked up around 60, 000 km. Also a member of the club, he took part in a number of events and gatherings at the wheel of the car, which now has just over 85, 000 km on the clock. The interior is entirely original and in satisfactory condition. It has been serviced since 1989 by the Peugeot Desruol garage located near Annonay, and a large file of invoices attests to its regular maintenance. We should also note the presence of its original red bar. Our car has been driven very little in recent years but is in good working order, and its timing belt was replaced at the end of 2023. An absolute myth of the 1980s, the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 is one of the most coveted cars of its generation for its rarity, its performance, its track record and its glorious history. Few cars today can claim to have a clear and fully documented history like the one we are presenting to you today. Having had only two owners, our car has never stopped running, giving its owner intense pleasure. Presented at a very attractive estimate, it is certainly an exceptional opportunity not to be missed!
