1968 Daimler 250

Registration – PCD 951G
Chassis No. – P1K3829BW
M. O. T. – Exempt
Odometer – 66, 112

‘PCD951G’ hails from 1968 and so is a post-facelift example of the Daimler 2. 5 V8 which was renamed the V8-250 at that point. The earlier 2. 5 V8 was the first Jaguar designed car to wear a Daimler badge, basically being a re-branded MKII Jaguar saloon. ‘PCD951G’ is an eight former keeper car with the current vendor owning it for around 5 years or so. ‘PCD951G’ shows a recorded 66, 000 miles or so which appears to be supported by the MOT history. ‘PCD951G’ has been subject to an earlier restoration and was resprayed in 2020 at a cost of £1, 700 or so. ‘PCD951G’ is classified as an Historic Vehicle and so is MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax. The Daimler was last MOT’d in 2019 at 54, 681 miles and is offered here with a big history file containing instructive paperwork from all periods of the car’s history.

The facelifted Daimler was notable for its “slimline” bumpers and overriders but in most other external ways it was very similar to the earlier car. ‘PCD951G’ looks very sophisticated in its grey livery which represents a re-application of the original hue dating from 2020. A key differentiator over the MKII Jaguar is the signature “scalloped” Daimler radiator grill. A nice set of cross-spoked wire wheels are fitted and affixed with chrome centre spinners embossed with Daimler “D’s.” The luxurious interior is finished in a combination of black upholstery and carpets and lots of great looking varnished walnut veneer. A lovely wooden rimmed alloy steering wheel is fitted as well as a bulkhead fire extinguisher and a contemporary Kenwood CD / radio head unit. The bodywork, paintwork and interior are all rated as “good.”

The sweetly running 2. 5-litre V8, Edward Turner engine fitted to the V8-250 is one of the smallest production V8s ever produced. It is renowned for its smooth running as well as offering a great performance to economy ratio for a relatively heavy luxury saloon. An Autocar road test of the period clocked an automatic V8-250, like this one, at 112mph with the 0-60mph sprint achieved in 13. 6 seconds. ‘PCD951G’ is fitted with a three speed Borg Warner automatic transmission with a column mounted gear change lever. The transmission is rated as “excellent” and the engine and electrics as “good.”

In summary:

· The subject of an earlier restoration and a full respray in 2020

· Complete with a bulging paperwork file

· MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax, so ready to enjoy immediately
