2025.
We sold this SE5a GTE Automatic some years ago. The owner enjoys working on and improving his cars and he has now moved on to a new toy.
Recent works include a rebuilt gearbox and torque converter, a new carburettor, and a stainless exhaust and petrol tank have been fitted. The radiator has been recored and bushes and pipes have been updated throughout the car. AVO shock absorbers replaced the orginals, a WOSP starter his in place and the bumpers are now stainless steel. There is a long list of the work that has been carried out.
There is a massive history file which includes pictures of the bare chassis when it was restored.
2021
The last owner bought this GTE in 1984 and used it has his daily driver. In 1996 he started a chassis up restoration which, as an aircraft engineer, was well within his capabilities. The body was removed from the chassis which was refurbished, a reconditioned engine was fitted, the brakes renewed, and other components attended to as necessary. The interior had a new headlining and carpets and the leather seats were lightly refurbished. The bodywork was resprayed in red.
He used the Scimitar for a couple of years and then parked it up in a dry garage in 2003 and never drove it again. We acquired it a recently and re-commissioned it and it is now ready for further adventures.
The interior is excellent, nice and dry and clean with a very good dashboard. The mechanics are also very good with a lusty engine and and a smooth gearbox. The chassis is superb with not a hint of rust anywhere.
Unfortunately, the skilled engineer was well versed in mechanical restoration, but not quite so good at paintwork skills. He painted the car himself and made a decent job of it, but twenty five years down the road there are now blemishes in the finish. The car looks perfectly presentable from a few paces away, but there are paintwork issues.
We have carried out some further work and the Scimitar is an excellent, usable classic car.
