We are delighted to present for sale this 1968 Land Rover® Series 2a, presented in the popular Mid Grey colour scheme with Limestone Wheels and Sand Canvas.
Externally, all the period features one would hope to see on a “good” Series 2a are present – the vintage number plates, recent bumper, bonnet mounted spare, wing top mounted mirrors, recent sand canvas rear grab handles, rear mudflaps – etc etc. There are also some notable modern additions to make life easier, such as the free wheeling hubs to prevent diff wind up, a tow bar with electrics to allow towing and a cross-climate set of tyres for the best compromise between off and on road ability. In our opinion, the culmination of all these items makes for a very handsome truck indeed.
On the inside, there are three front deluxe seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. The front interior has been lined with a deluxe trim set for both a premium feel over standard and to aid sound deadening when driving. The rear is unfitted, with the exception of a load mat to the floor area to protect against scratches – this could house a pair of bench seats for £595, which would mean seating for seven occupants including the driver… these also fold away to reveal the entire load area should it be so required.
Out on the road, this Series 2a gives a pleasing period drive, which has been much enhanced by several upgrades – the weber carburettor which affords more power over standard, the larger cross climate tyres to aid road holding and increase gearing, the free wheeling hubs which reduce axle wear and increase fuel economy – etc etc. It drives just as it should, and thanks to a recent brake service, stops as it should too.
In summary, if you are looking for a Series 2a which you can use for the upcoming warmer months with the roof off, or the sides rolled up, then this is well worth considering. With the added benefits of Tax and MOT exemption alongside cost-effective classic insurance, it should prove as cost effective as possible to run, whilst being an asset for the future too.
