Description
Sunbeam Alpine (IV): Restored/ Overdrive/ Beautiful
The "Series" Alpine commenced production in 1959 as a direct competitor to the MGA that was proving so popular at the time. Based on a modified floor pan from the Hillman Husky estate the design team made extensive use of components from across the Rootes Group and the final result looked good, drove well and the Transatlantic styling proved very popular with the press and public alike.
Introduced in 1964 our Series IV Sunbeam, affectionately known as ‘Huntley’, has had just five owners from new and was the subject of a full four-year restoration between 2010 and 2014 by the then owner, a qualified engineer, who completed the project as a no expense spared/ no time limit-imposed hobby. The final result is stunning and a testimony to his skill, knowledge and the depth of his pockets.
Summary of Restoration:
· Body shell stripped (fixed to jig) and back to bare metal
· Sand blasted and all corrosion removed/ replacement floors etc as required
· Engine inspected/ block replaced
· Gearbox, brakes, suspension & rear axle reconditioned
· New Wiring loom and all electrical components replaced
· Interior (Grey) upholstery, carpets, trim and hood replaced
· Photographs recording the restoration
· History file contains old V5s, a DVLA summary of previous owners MOT’s etc and detailed pictures of the restoration.
Today the car is one of the best driving Alpines that you could wish to own. In my personal favourite combination of Rootes Midnight Blue with grey leather interior and chrome wire wheels she is absolutely stunning and draws positive comments no matter where you park.
After a long search Alun, the fifth owner, purchased the Sunbeam around 10 years ago from the restorer. During his ownership the car has always been garaged and used sparingly for trips out with friends & family including the Goodwood Revival every year.
The perfect car to enjoy and make many happy memories in the Alpine really needs to be viewed and driven in order to be fully appreciated.
