Volvo Estate 740GL – 3 Owners & 36, 000 miles
The Volvo 740 was introduced in 1984 with the estate version hitting the market in 1985. The car immediately enjoyed immense success around the world due to its reliability, renowned safety levels and its unparalleled interior space/ load capacity.
Milestone Classics are delighted to market the best, most original 740GL Estate that we have ever seen. The car was bought new by Jack Morris during May 1989 – he purchased the car from his local Volvo Agent, Dean Smith, St Anne’s-on-sea, Fylde, and went on to own the car for the next 31 years.
We were delighted when the car appeared on the Milestones radar around 2 years ago and she found a new home with Si King from the Hairy Bikers as a present for his son. The 740 came back to us last year and we sold her to a regular customer who, after really enjoying the car, has part-exchanged her for a P6 Rover 3500.
Today the Volvo has covered just 36, 000 miles – so not even run-in. The paint work and engine bay are outstanding while the interior is unmarked with a smell that takes you straight back to 1989. I really like that the car retains the original supplier’s registration plates, two sets of keys and the factory tow bar that looks like it has never been used
On the road the car does not disappoint. She has the rarer five speed manual gearbox with power steering. As you would expect the 740 is a delight to drive and copes easily with modern driving conditions.
The history file has invoices back to 1989, the original book pack including service book (13 entries) & handbook and the V5 confirms no previous owners
Our 740GL Estate is an utterly original car that has clearly been conserved and loved by fastidious owners. Ready to be used as a regular everyday car that stands out from the crowd or simply a practical classic for high days and holidays, we expect this remarkable car to find an appreciative new keeper very quickly.
