Description
Speedbroker are proud to present this stunning 1956 Aluminium body Jaguar XJ140 Roadster OTS, which was originally supplied to Jaguar Cars New York and first registered on 3rd January 1956.
With its predecessor being the beautifully refined XK120, the XK140 first became available in 1955, boasting some significant changes and upgrades. The 3. 4l engine was moved 3” further forward than previous positioning, and rack-and-pinion steering was an additional new feature. In terms of external updates the radiator grille, rear lights and bumpers (made larger) were all subject to adaptation.
Other amendments and upgrades included:
- Higher-lift cam shafts and revised porting (giving the engine a more impressive 190BHP)
- Cast iron bearing caps were replaced with steel bearing caps.
- Close-ratio gearbox became an option for the first time
- SE models could be ordered with a C-type cylinder head engine, enabling a BHP of 210
- SE model options also could include wire wheels and Lucas fog lamps
- Road test speeds resulted in excess of 120mph
This particular example was imported into the UK in 2014, originally pastel blue with red interior, and has undergone an extensive restoration by the very well renowned Leaping Cats Ltd, including a retrim to dark and light grey leather with complementary dark blue tonneau in mohair and dark blue carpets. The hood was also renewed in dark blue mohair.
A full engine rebuild was carried out by Chesman Motorsport in 2015, upgrading the pistons, bearings, crankshaft, rear crank seal, con rods and bushes, with The Type 'C' cylinder head having new valves fitted, guides and tappet buckets, new seats and camshaft bearings. It also underwent full concourse paintwork, in Reflex Silver, with the battery panels and wheel box being finished in black, by Peacock Prestige in 2019.
Further upgrades include power steering; disc brakes front and rear; five-speed LT77 gearbox, Polybush suspension; whilst the radiator has been fitted with a modern high efficiency core and electric cooling fan; 2" SU HD8 carburettors; pertronix electric ignition; and a battery cut-off switch.
