motodrome offer for sale GB331, a 1998/ S reg (but comes with the plate shown, which reflects it’s 50th number) Land Rover Defender 50th Anniversary Special Edition, as usual finished in Atlantis Metallic.
The 50th is one of the rarest, most iconic, and most civilised Defenders ever made. The 4. 0 V8 coupled with automatic transmission, in the 90 body, will go anywhere and tow anything, and they look great too.
Of course, being a factory car there are no issues of unsuitable parts, wrong gearing, badly engineered conversions etc. Totally glitch – free!
If you know your 50th’s, you’ll notice that this one is a little different from standard in terms of it’s interior, as the original Rayleigh cloth seats, (drivers, passengers, and the original 4 sideways facing seats) have been removed and replaced with black cloth seats from a post 2007 model, including 2 forward-facing folding seats in the rear, making this one a practical 4-seater.
In 2022, the last owner sent the vehicle to Audiofile with a brief to make the interior reflect the status of the car, which Land Rover didn’t bother doing when new. Audiofile fitted electric front windows, central locking, a superb Pioneer sound system with DAB, USB, integrated reversing camera and subwoofer, black alcantara headlining, full black carpeting in place of the original grey, rebuilt door cards, and stainless finishers. Audiofile also fitted much more soundproofing throughout the interior – you can still hear the rumble of the V8, but the cabin is now far quieter than standard. Audiofile also fitted a heated front screen and rear parking sensors – the total bill came to a smidgeon under £9000 but it’s made this Defender a far more civilised example.
Unlike most, it still sports it’s original 50th steering wheel.
All UK 50ths are fitted as standard with automatic transmission, pewter alloys (shod in this case with a matching set of Cooper Discoverer tyres), anti-roll bars, air conditioning , factory Safari rollcage, cubbybox, alarm/ immobiliser, rear bulkhead removal, NAS rear step, all of which this retains.
Externally it’s been further fitted with LED lights all round, including the headlights, has stainless steel hinge bolts, privacy tint to the windows, and the brakes have been uprated to TAROX calipers
Odometer reading 97000m and we have an absolutely massive service history for this one including: the original service book with details of 18 services, a huge folder of bills/ history back to the mid 2000’s, and old MOT’s.
We have the original 50th book pack, and 2 sets of keys and fobs.
Last serviced March 2025, including renewal of both diff oils and transfer box oil. So it’s ready to go
Comes with MOT to April 2026 with no advisories. It will also come with our usual 6 month warranty if sold in the UK.
It was treated to a full rustproofing by the renowned ‘Before n After’ in 2021 and the certificate is in the file.
Aircon recharged with R134a in 2024.
On test on arrival it performed wonderfully with a brilliant exhaust note – it’s cars like this that make me want to get up in the morning. Motodrome have sold many 50th’s over the years, and this is one of the nicest, most well sorted, ones I’ve had through my hands. It’s quite exceptional, and a credit to it’s previous owners who’ve clearly looked after it.
