Description
Classic Car Design brings you this powerful Ford Mustang V8 289 racing coupé. It's not just the model that's impressive, it's the work that's gone into it! Its owner, a member of Mustang Club de France, has been driving a Mustang for many years. He has spent countless hours and countless dollars to achieve his dream. A 5cm thick file of invoices and photos traces the car's restoration and preparation. Over €73, 000 (seventy-three thousand) was invested over a period of almost 6 years. Since then, the car has covered just over 2, 600 km. It benefits from an LP VRH from the FIA / FFSA (Laissez-passer pour véhicule de régularité historique) in the 'tourism' category. It's impossible to give you an exhaustive list of everything that's been achieved, but here's a summary: The basic car is a Californian code C model 66 which was first registered in 1965. It was completely dismantled to work on all the sheet metal and fit the approved roll bar. The superb 'Sylver blue' now covers the entire body. The yellow stripe is a nod to the famous AC cobra 289 FIA. The front bumper has disappeared in favour of a Shelby-type skirt topped by the Oscar Cibié. Mechanically, everything has been redone or fitted as new. The 302 ci Ford Racing engine is fitted with ICON forged pistons and Eagle H beam connecting rods. It is fed by a Holley 670 cfm carburettor on an Edelbrock performer pipe. It also benefits from full MSD ignition and an oil cooler with a large-capacity Milodon oil pan. Following on from the 4-in-1 manifolds, the stainless-steel exhaust system with side tailpipes was made to measure. This engine is mated to a 4 Top-loader gearbox that transmits power to the self-locking axle. There is no power-assisted steering or braking. Front braking is by 4-piston callipers and 280mm Wilwood discs. They are controlled by a Wilwood pedal box. Damping is provided by 4 Koni units. As on the Shelbys, the upper wishbone mountings have been relocated and the axle is fitted with tie rods. The wheels are 6x15 American Racing semi-slick rims, and the cabin also has a sporty feel, even if the carpets and door panels are present. The dashboard features a full set of Autometer instruments. Everything is there for taking part in regularity rallies and track sessions: Lecarra steering wheel, bucket seats, harness, brake distribution control, Tripmaster, fire extinguishers, including one with dual interior/ exterior controls and nozzles in the passenger compartment and engine compartment, circuit breaker, etc. The battery has been placed in the boot. Having had the chance to drive this beast on the racetrack and having been co-driver on a historic rally, I can tell you that this Pony car is a bomb worthy of the Mustang myth!
