Here we offer the opportunity to purchase what must be the best Ducati 916 Foggy Replica to have been offered for sale in recent times. The bike was supplied by us to its owner in 2017 and since then it has had a no expense spared full restoration carried out with close to £20, 000 spent on the fully documented build.
This 1999 UK bike has covered just 6, 954 miles (None since supplied by us to the owner) and has the number 178 of 202 worldwide examples showing on the headstock. It benefits from being supplied with the original paddock stand, 2 keys, the all important boxed commemorative plaque, Performance cover and handbook pack with the service book. The book shows 6 stamps with a selection of old MOT certificates and service receipts including a recommissioning service carried out at Cornerspeed Ducati back in 2017 at the bikes current mileage. The package also includes the original sales invoice, showroom "Foggy" brochures and magazine.
The bike has recently had a full strip restoration that has cost the owner close to £20, 000. The package also includes photographic evidence of all stages of the work carried out which included front and rear wheels removed, blasting, repainting and reassembling. (tyres and wheel bearings have also been replaced.) forks removed, seals and oil replaced, fork yokes renovated. Finish on the brake calipers have been restored using ultrasonic cleaning, all caliper seals have been replaced. The frame has been removed, blasted and re-painted to perfectly match the original colour.
The foggy reps all came with date stamps on the fairing panels which were 1997 or 1998. All fairings have been replaced with the correct date stamped versions. Every fairing panel has been taken back to the substrate, restored and painted to perfectly match the original colour. The seat panel is an original MS production carbon fibre item as supplied when the bike was new and has also been perfectly restored.
The rear Ohlins suspension unit has been removed, re-built and restored as new, swing arm renovated to as new condition.
The engine has been removed and stripped, all fluids changed, engine body has been restored and re-painted. The battery has been replaced, new belts and tensioner bearings, all valve clearances have been checked and set. All engine casings have been removed, blasted with seals and bearings replaced, re-painted to perfectly match the original colour. The radiator and oil cooler have been removed, fully restored and finished using ceracote as it disperses heat so well. The petrol tank is original and carries the correct date stamp. It has been fully serviced. The pump inspection panel has been removed, the breather pipe has been replaced along with the fuel filter and pump gasket.
The bike has been carefully re-assembled and checked as per original 916 SPS FR specifications. All electrics have been checked to ensure they are working correctly and any worn out components have been replaced. Bike has been tested stationary to ensure that all air has been bled from the cooling system and that the fan cuts in when it is supposed to.
Capitalising on Carl Fogarty's World Superbike Championship successes, Ducati introduced the limited edition 916SPS 'Fogarty Replica' in 1998. Only 202 were made, number '002' being reserved for the great man himself while '001' was retained for Ducati's museum in Bologna. Like the standard 916SPS on which it was based, the 'Foggy Rep' used the 996cc motor boasting a new cylinder head design, Termignoni exhaust system, titanium con-rods and numerous other revisions to give a claimed 134bhp along with a close-ratio gearbox, improved Brembo front brake callipers and a unique carbon-fibre exhaust shield.
