An Overview

The Porsche 911 is the most iconic sports car of our time, launched in 1963, it continues to evolve, getting larger, more powerful and more accomplished with every generation.

The models from 1969-1973 are probably the prettiest cars Porsche have ever produced and iconic status was sealed when Steve McQueen used his own example for the opening scene of the film Le Mans in 1971.

Our PS Classic Touring Series was originally conceived 20 years ago for the discerning owner who appreciated the authentic timeless style of the 911 from this period, however sought increased refinement and attention to detail, in a car that was suitable for daily use.

With the concept proven, in 2008 we evolved our Series 1 into Series 1. 5, similar to the Series 1 models in concept, but effectively fully built cars supplied with a 3 year 60, 000 mile warranty when completed.

The example offered here `Build 21` was created in 2011 and finished in a classic colour combination of light ivory with a poppy red leather interior. Based on a later G series platform, it features a 3. 2 litre air cooled flat 6 engine and a Getrag G50 gearbox with revised ratios for touring, and unlike many later restomods, the emphasis was to capture the beauty and simplicity of a classic 911, using many of the original parts and features from the period.

The all-steel body work was hand crafted in the traditional way by coachbuilders Clark and Carter without a carbon fibre panel in sight, and the eagle eyed amongst you will have observed that the correct gold lettering, grill, window frames, sill covers, chrome surround lenses and over riders are all from the same period. The window frames and wheels are worthy of a special mention as the cheaper (and often seen) option would be to fit polished aluminium items for the early look effect. However, for our cars, these are all correctly anodised as a genuine car would have been fitted with in period, and still look as good as new today. The 15” Fuchs wheels are genuine rather than replica, but just an inch wider than standard to cope with the increased level of performance this car has over a standard original model.

Moving to the inside, the theme continues where instead of modern materials, colour coded painted panels, aluminium rimmed dials etc, you are greeted with a traditional interior created to emulate those found in the original models. The doors feature original furniture from the late 60s, whilst the dashboard and dials are finished with a simple nod to the same period. The seats are genuine Recaros, modified to still give upper support, but with a flatter, wider base to make them more comfortable for someone of a larger build. Unlike an original, facia vents were placed in the dashboard to allow effective use of the more modern ventilation and air conditioning system installed.

Our Thoughts

Clearly, we will be biased by the concept of a classic looking 911 combined with enhanced features and performance, as this is our 20th year creating such cars. However, with each example being built to our client’s personal specification, and only a few created each year, used examples rarely come up for sale. This 911 exudes the presence and style of a genuine late 60s original but is perfectly happy being used for a cross-continent road trip, or the daily commute. The fact that it is free from ULEZ charges and qualifies for free annual road tax too will be the icing on the cake for some. It has been maintained by us or other reputable Porsche specialists, has covered just 7, 500 miles since completion and is still in immaculate condition throughout.

If you are looking for a reliable and dependable companion with iconic styling for your first air-cooled 911, this fully restored and enhanced PS Classic Touring will tick many boxes and of course will be supplied fully prepared and warranted for its next custodian’s peace of mind.
