Description
A nicely presented example of Mercedes-Benz's 2. 0 litre 190E (W201). Very original and unmolested with just 3 former keepers. Stored and SORN’d for the last few years but recently the subject of a light recommission (brakes, plugs, oil etc.) and now a super drive both around town and on the open road.
Body and the Astral Silver paintwork are good with just some isolated stone chips and some slight lacquer peel which is confined to the driver’s side roof bar. There is a small (2cm) spot of surface corrosion to bottom of the rear window surround on the left-hand side. Underneath is very solid although there is a minor bit of floor damage around the rear jacking point which may require a patch.
Inside is clean and original. The dash is free of marks or damage with gauges, radio and heater controls all in working order. The veneered sections are not cracked and look well. Seats are firm and undamaged and the headlining is taut and clean. The door cards are good although the vinyl is lifting slightly at the tops of a couple of doors and may benefit from re-gluing.
The car starts on the button and ticks over quietly. The auto gearchange is clean and the car pulls away with plenty of punch and appears to have no obvious mechanical issues either sitting in traffic or at speed. Steering and suspension both feel firm and the brakes are good, bringing the car to a steady and predictable stop.
With good, original 190’s becoming increasingly difficult to find this car represents a great opportunity to bag a very usable classic which can be driven daily whilst also providing some scope to easily bring it up to A1 condition.
The car comes with V5C log-book and good service history documentation including dealer service stamps up to 102, 000 miles.
