We are delighted to present for sale this 1965 Series 2a Land Rover®, which has been very recently subjected to a rebuild onto a new galvanised chassis, with many, many new parts. It is extremely uncommon we see a vehicle so freshly completed, except for our own nut and bolt restoration service – for which there is a significant 6 month+ waiting time. Also, because the previous keeper has “taken the hit” in spending significantly above the asking price of this vehicle – we believe it represents exceptional value for money – you could not build one of this standard for this price!
The rebuild appears to be very recent – with the chassis stickers still present underneath, and the galvanised surface of the chassis still shiny and looking “as new”. Sometimes, we do see vehicles which have been branded as a full rebuild, when actually they are just a straight chassis swap – where one changes for a galvanised new chassis but bolts all the old parts onto it – this is not the case with this Series 2a – everywhere one looks, they can see evidence of a large amount of money spent. Below is only a small flavour of the “new” items which we have discovered upon inspection, rather than an exhaustive list, just to give a prospective owner an understanding of the level of detail that has gone into this vehicle:
New Galvanised Chassis
New Galvanised Cappings throughout – very unusual as many do not replace the windscreen surround or the fuel filler cluster due to availability of these items.. even the inside rear of bulkhead cappings are new.. wow!
New Galvanised Stick Set
New Sand Canvas
New Panels – including rear 1/ 4 panels.
New Tow Bar with Electrics
New Standard Seats Front
New Bench Seats Rear
New Deluxe Trim – Door Cards, Matting Front & Rear, Sound Deadening, Rear Mat etc etc New Seat Belt Bar with Belts for 3 point “plug and play” safety belts.
New Twin Wiper Motors
New 750×16 Chevron Tyres
New Matching Spare with New Bonnet Furniture to fit it
These items (apart from the chassis) are just some the cosmetic items replaced – and as one can see from the photos – it looks almost like new underneath, with new parts being fitted in pretty much every area – far, far too many to list here. From this list one can see the level of care and attention the vehicle has received, which is a testament to its previous owner.
Externally, as one can imagine and see from the photos – there is no other word for this vehicle other than simply gorgeous. The new panels, the spray finish to the bodywork, the fresh galvanised cappings everywhere you look including the windscreen, the new tyres and hub end caps, the new bumper, the new canvas and sticks, the new vintage number plates, all new side, indicator and brake lights – it all comes together to create a package which would look good anywhere – in your garage, out on the road, at the local classic car show, down the pub or the beach, etc etc. There are also sympathetic and useful modern upgrades such as a tow bar with electrics, should you need to put the vehicle to work, which is a nice touch. We really believe you’d struggle to find a better looking Series 2a – particularly at this price point too.
It is the same story on the inside, with new parts everywhere one looks as mentioned above – seating for seven people including the driver, heater with demist for those colder mornings to prevent icing up and brand new matting to all the footwells and deluxe trim wherever one expects to see it. The joy of these uprated Seat Belt Bars is not only safety but the ease of use – no fighting adjusting static seat belts, just step in, put your belt on as per a modern car, turn the key and you are good to go. An immobiliser is fitted to deter theft, in the form of a red toggle cut off switch which can be removed and taken with you – this also prevents draining the battery if being stored in a garage for longer periods.
Out on the road, I’m sure one can imagine what a recent rebuild has done to the driving experience – it feels tight and slick to drive with a Weber Carb and larger tyres increasing the gearing, making the cruise more relaxed and removing the worry of feeling you are holding up modern traffic. It is amongst the very best enhanced period drives we have ever seen. We must confess that on our test route in Thirsk Town Centre, there are many shop fronts with large windows that reflect as one drives by – we went round twice just to see ourselves & the public adored looking at it when we parked up for some shots – both young and old. We fully accept that beauty is always in the eye of the beholder and it is always impossible to get everyone to agree… but based on this test drive, we don’t believe you’d turn more heads regardless of what you drive!
In summary then, if you are looking for a Series Land Rover® for all the family which will stand the test of time – this has to be worth consideration. When considering the specification (and the very recent rebuild) of this car, alongside the asking price – we believe this represents outstanding value for money & many outfits would charge you 1/ 2 as much again to produce a vehicle of this standard… and you’d be in for a long wait to the point where you’d miss the summer months where you want to use it the most. This is on the showroom floor, ready for immediate delivery with our in-house warranty applied also. Thanks to MOT & Tax Exemption, alongside Classic Insurance and a host of new parts – it should also prove as cost effective and as hassle free as possible to own – it is ready to hit the road for whatever adventure you want to go on.
