First seen in 1950 having been announced at the Earl's Court Motor Show, the Morgan Plus 4 was a larger and more powerful derivative of the company's 4/ 4 and remained in production on and off for seventy years. The Plus 4 at its introduction was fitted with a 2088 cc Standard Vanguard engine installed on a widened and strengthened 4/ 4 chassis with a wheelbase lengthened by 4 in (102 mm). Hydraulic brakes, initially all drum, were fitted for the first time on a Morgan. The Plus Four went from strength to strength and was upgraded with the Triumph TR2 and TR3 power units and ended production in 1969. For 1985, the Plus Four name was again reintroduced with the Series 2 featuring a Fiat Twin Cam 2. 0 Litre engine followed by a Rover M16i engine from 1988 which carried through until production again ended in 2000. For 2004 however, the model was relaunched now powered by the Ford Duratec engine mated to a five-speed Mazda gearbox. Power was now 145bhp (later upgraded to 154hp) however Morgan still stuck to their traditional build methods for body construction. The model was again upgraded in 2020 and continues to be sold today, as one of their most popular models.
