It is 62 years since the MGB was launched on to the British market, this handsome, classless fun car still defined the British Sports car. As British as the black cab, warm beer, fish and chips and summer rain.
The superbly restored example we offer here was purchased from a well known ex McLaren Formula one engineer, who restored the car over a three year period finishing the project in 2020' since when the car has covered just 2, 800 miles. Below we quote the words of the Formula one engineer describing the the rebuild.
"Other than the painting, most of the work has been carried out by myself and as an ex F1 engine builder I have a keen eye for detail and my standards are exceptionally high. The car has had everything done to it, the main points being:
The original front and rear valances, boot floor and floor pans were retained.
The body was in excellent condition helped by not having a sun roof.
The full body was taken to bare metal, shot blasted, powder coated, etch primed and painted Blaze red in the oven with all correct labels applied. the underbody was cleaned and properly protected.
The resultant panel gaps are ex-works perfect and the overall finish is 'show standard' with a well detailed engine bay and boot area.
The engine was given a full and complete refit, full strip rebore, reground crankshaft, flywheel resurfaced, new camshaft, new timing chain and total clean.
Brakes, all parts new from pedal to all wheel pipes cylinders pads and shoes. New Borg and Beck clutch.
The gearbox was dismantled, total clean and reassembled.
Suspension front and rear renewed.
Full new wiring loom.
New heating matrix flap mechanism and stainless screws.
New starter motor with alternator rebuilt.
Dashboard also blasted, crinkle finished and oven baked.
Full stainless steel exhaust system.
The interior was newly retrimmed with the front and rear seats finished in special black velour for added comfort.
The car runs exceptionally well on best petrol. Everything works as it should, overdrive and good heater etc"
Whilst in the custody of the last owner the car has been serviced, MOT'd and cosseted by the well known and experienced Rees Bros Restorations Ltd of Aldershot, who carried out the following:
Fitting of new special strut supports on the tailgate.
Fitting of Electronic ignition.
New full 'Tourist Trophy' exhaust system.
Larger fuel tank for added touring mileage.
Uprated Blaupunkt DAB radio system and speakers so cleverly installed that nothing detracts from the originality of the car's interior.
